    my first vintage appliance!!!!

Michael... Congrats on your first restoration. Jeff tells me that you did a very good job. It looks beautiful. That shine will last for years. With a little care it will last a lifetime. Those old Hoovers were built to last and they really cleaned using very little electric which is something...

    COLLECTION STARTED!!!! OH NO!!!!!

Well Michael, you could not have picked a better place to start or a better brand to start with! The Hoover 700 is a classic for sure. I bet it runs like a top too. I know that Jeff will help you with the polishing and all of the little details. I hate to say it now, but you my friend are a...

    Whither Goes Chrysler?

Nathan... You are so right about American cars. They are well past it now. I think that even Americans are tiring of the low quality and blandness of the cars. The "big" 3 are in lots of trouble. They brought it on themselves. I personally have been a victim of FOUR lousy GM cars. I really do...

Tucson 2007: And so it begins...

Skip...agreed...I will more than happily leave you be...it was not an attack upon you at all. Like I said I do not know you! I only know you from some emails...(and they were bad!). I am more than happy to let anything go. I am a very reasonable person. If you wish and you can be nice about...

Tucson 2007: And so it begins...

Skip Skip Skip...tsk tsk tsk...there you go again taking things the wrong way...I merely wanted to comment on the great photos. I am so glad that everyone had such a good time. I was talking to Jeff Parker about the "wash in" and he said how much fun it was. So take that any way you want...

Tucson 2007: And so it begins...

Wow! You guys look like you are having a great time. I really like the Hoover twin tub with the auto rinse feature. That was very big for the Hoover Company when they introduced the one piece molded plastic tubs. Those were done right up the street from me! Beautiful old vacs too. I really liked...

    MY Latest UK possesion

Scott... I think that many of the Hoover bags are being "outsourced" now. The paper bag plant here in Canton, OH is still up and running but I think that they are making some of the more popular styles of bags. --Tom

This great running and mint Hoover is labeled a Western Auto and it features this very unusual blue and white print bag with the big white top. This is a top fill model and uses type A bags. Very easy to change and not nearly as messy as some of these bagless cleaners. Plus the "A" bags can be...

Here is a rather loud orange JCPenney cleaner from 1974 or so. This one was found at a flea market and I had to use the good ole' American dollar to convince the guy to sell it to me. He wanted to use it for parts! Anyway it has a good home here now. Check out that wild checked bag! --Tom

Pete...you should grab the DAM while you can. There are fewer and fewer of these machines to be had. There were three green standard models the one like I posted, the 1130 (which is a very soft spring green), and the 1149 which is a louder "Bali" green from 1971. Here is a very loud 728...

Pete...I like the term Punkin Poo...I think that is an industry term!!! LOL!! Austin... Yes, the U4001 came in a lot of different colors. Some Kmart stores had one color and another might have a completely different color. However, the same good cleaning capability and Hoover quality remained...

Oh these machines... The first one is the 1076...the second is a U4001...and the last one is a U5017....They really are great machines. I am sure that there are many many out there still cleaning rugs in homes across America. --Tom

And how about some GREEN from Hoover??? Here is my mom's Dial a Matic (DAM for short). This was a gift from my dad at Christmas 1977. The bright green is very eye catching, but the name of it escapes me. This is another example of a brightly colored vacuum from Hoover that really worked well...

Another wild color from Hoover.... Here is another photo of a great American vacuum made right here in sunny North Canton OH (LOL! It snowed today!). This example is from 1972 and it is a "lesser" Convertible model in Bittersweet (orange). Again this machine quietly without a lot of fanfare...

dyson did not come up with the idea.... Other vacuum cleaner companies had the "great" idea to add color to their machines to make them stand out long before the dyson was ever dreamed of...here is a Hoover example from about 1971. It is Ceylon yellow and this machine really cleans your rug all...

Seamus... Good point about dysons...they may be future collectibles...lousy vacs but future collectibles! The ones her in the US are just dreadful. They do have some interesting colors though...too bad color does not clean carpet!LOL!! --Tom

are your favourite products being discontinued??

Has anyone ever heard of "Big Wally"? It came in a can with a cartoon or Big Wally in a red white and blue color scheme. The can was a little bigger than a bottle of Pledge. It was a white foam and it cleaned your walls. You just sprayed the foam, let it sit, and then wiped the walls clean. It...

    My latest Hoover addition :)

Hey...we had a similar version here in the U.S. Hoover built them into the 1960's here in both the Pixie and Dustette versions. Yours is beautiful! I think that it looks great displayed with its original box. What a find! Thanks for sharing!!! --Tom
