How to use your Frigidaire Equipped Washteria....

Seamus That brings back some childhood memories, our local laundrette was Frigidaire equipped. It was only small and took up the ground floor of a terraced house, if I remember correctly there were 5 turquoise washers and 5 dryers. All the signs were the same as was the wonderful 1970's grooved...

    1961 Duo-Matic Twin Tub

Underneath I've taken a few pics underneath this morning. There appears to be some 'interesting' wiring going on with the main connections being inside a sort of plastic cup as in the last picture. The spin motor has very little identification on it, certainly no makers name. The wash motor...

    1961 Duo-Matic Twin Tub

I'm enjoying all this extra fascinating information coming out about the Duomatic, I'll see if I can have a look at the motors tomorrow to see if there is any identification on them to see if that helps. Ian

    1961 Duo-Matic Twin Tub

Thanks For all the extra information. I'm guessing it must be quite an early machine if the Science museum think 1963 and the 1962 quote above says Duomatic were only selling 700 imported machines. The date written underneath is 1961, sadly the rating plate is only a sticker most of which is...

    1961 Duo-Matic Twin Tub

Thanks to a couple of tip offs from Darren and Al last weekend I've had a trip to Cambridge today to collect a Duo-Matic twinny. I have to say I don't really know a lot about Duo-Matic except I think they were the predecessors to the Rolls family of twin tubs. I do have to say that it seems to...

    Hard Towels

Extra Rinse I also find that extra rinsing helps. If I wash towels in the twin tub and do four or five deep rinses in the sink they are noticeably softer after line drying than if they have been in the Miele, even with water plus selected to give three rinses with a spin between each.

1970s UK Catalogues - Washer Pages

Paul I knew you'd know the answer to that one. I didn't know they existed, I thought the buttons were missing as I couldn't see how the door would open. I presume it has the same catch as the contemporary Zanussi but you can't see it in the picture because of the colour of the door glass...

1970s UK Catalogues - Washer Pages

Thanks Rob For posting these, a veritable wander down memory lane. Interesting that the Zanussi based Hotpoint appears to have had it's buttons 'airbrushed' out on picture 13! If we're putting orders in I'll have the Colston twinny. Ian.

    A Vintage Halloween 2017

Thank You I'll second Mark's comments from above for a great weekend. Looking forward to the next time and seeing the new improved version. Ian. Didn't notice you taking a pic while I was 'wearing' the blanket! LOL.

    Happy 60th birthday Hoovermatic...

Hoses Mathew I must admit the taps can be a bit difficult. I've not tried a Hoover anti syphon one but oddly enough the Hotpoint box end hoses fit the best. Any ordinary ones and you have to turn the tap on first before pushing the hose in place. Ian

    Happy 60th birthday Hoovermatic...

Looking Good What a great colour, you've made an excellent job of it. Its a shame more manufacturers didn't take a leaf out of Servis' book and produce coloured appliances. I know somewhere it would fit in quite nicely too! Ian. p.s You soon get used to it first thing in the morning Mathew!

    Morphy-richards Spin dryer Deluxe

Steve So glad this has gone to a good home. I did consider bidding on it, luckily it was too far away! That dark blue and white looks really good. I like how the timer works, I was expecting it to have had a control to set the time but it selecting the 4 minutes itself makes it doubly automatic...

    AEG Lavalux Super

Just Thinking Mike Looking at the pictures, does that nut at the bottom actually hold the spin can in place, or does it just hold the rinse tube? The reason I'm wondering this are the six domes in the bottom of the can, does something screw into these from underneath, al la later Supertwin...

    Vintage Apex/Vactric Washer Appears

Al That looks fantastic, for some reason I wasn't expecting it to be in such good condition. That green tub is gorgeous. What a strange thing to have done to have walled it up, I guess it must have been a pantry or such like it lived in. I'm most impressed with the lack of oil leaking from the...

    1978 Hoover Selectamatic 1100 A2054 (A3064)

Gentle Whites James Gentle Whites was available on the older machines as 'Whites Special', as far as I recall it was program A3 on the 3236H and half spin C on the A3138 Automatic AS1. I'm guessing that the other models between these and yours must have had it too before going to the 'Whites...

Back Up North to Durham a Year later for a Repair Weekend !!

Looks like you all had a great weekend. That's interesting about the 9605 doing the agitated fill, mine never did. Were there some that were modified from the factory? The Miele pair look very nice, does that mean the Hotpoint has been retired now. Ian.

    The First Hotpoint Front Loader

Can I Order The Automatic Standard please as there doesn't seem to be any surviving. I have my £2.01 ready, what day does the club man call? Ian.

Hoovermatic Deluxe t5090 leaking spin tub

Mathew I was wondering about the pump too, 2-3 minutes seems to be a long time to pump the wash tub, it's usually nearer to 60 seconds isn't it? Ian.

English Electric, Hoover & Rolls Repair clinic Weekend,,,,

Well done on the latest arrivals. You've done a great job fitting everything in! What can I say about that 1502, in my opinion the best looking of all the models, especially with the darker wood effect worktop. Can't wait to see it up and running. Just needs it's 'Warning Keep Hands Out Until...

English Electric, Hoover & Rolls Repair clinic Weekend,,,,

Mathew I'm glad to hear it got through the wash without tripping the electrics, it's a shame it pulled the two halves of the gasket apart. I'm wondering if you could reinforce the clamping by drilling through the two halves and the plastic and fixing it with plastic nuts and bolts without it...
