A Beautiful Window Lid Thor in France for our Euro Friends

Toggles, My French ain't what it was, but I can make out 'Laver' (wash) on the left, and 'Vaisselle' (dishes) on the right. As far as voltages are concerned (in the UK anyway), until the formation of the National Grid in 1926, electricity was generated by local power stations, in a variety of...

    Beautiful Twinny

Mark, yeah, the 1450 was tested in Which? October 1967, but unfortunately there's no picture of the control panel. I'd have said that the first of the Standard Hotpoint twinnies was the 1420 though. I've pinched this picture from Keith's (where has he gone?) website of it, it's clearly the...

A Beautiful Window Lid Thor in France for our Euro Friends

Thor in Europe I believe it was built in the UK - the September 1960 issue of 'Which?' magazine tests it, and says it was built in Britain (the only non-UK washer tested was an AEG twin tub). The machine tested was the later type controlled by foot pedal, the Thor Automagic 260H...

    My first vintage wringer washer

I'm wondering what came first, the Hoover or the Monitor? Pete, your machine looks very similar to the Hoover 0307 from 1948, except the Hoover has a double-walled washtub. The linky goes to the picture of Chestermike's machine. One seems to have ripped of the other, but not sure which...

    Blimey! Colour Television!!

Over here, there seem to be only a handful of television collectors. Pre-1964 sets use VHF broadcasts and 405 line CRTs, and we haven't had 405 line transmissions since 1985. Analogue television is also currently being phased out in the UK in favour of digital broadcasts. I have a lot of respect...

    Blimey! Colour Television!!

I love old televisions, but they really are beyond my ken. I used to own two black & white dual-standard sets, but ended up disposing of them after trying to flog them on ebay a couple of times. I do still have an early 70s Sony 14" though, which converts the PAL signal to NTSC and is very...

    Kenwood KDW4TTSL Dishwasher

Yeah, I'd beware of that one. We bought a cheap Proline tabletop a couple of years back, and the heater and salt indicator were both faulty from the off. Took us six months (and intervention from the credit card company) to get a refund too. I'd suggest looking for a used Bosch tabletop. We've...

    your resume of "obsolete" skills

Replacing the foam strip on 8-tracks (except on RCA carts, of course!). The ability to pick a chewed 8-track tape out of the machine without snapping it. Adjusting points on a car with a mechanical distributor Driving a 30 year old car with a top speed of 82 MPH at motorway speeds without it...

Guilty Pleasures? Can you admit to some songs you like but wont admit, except in this thread LOL!

Great hearing 'Dancing in the city' again. I had that song on a three cassette compilation years ago. I've got no shame whatsoever about kitsch music though, I mean, this is what I requested at a works Christmas do a couple of year back: <object width=425 height=350><param name=movie...

Lets have a UK Electric cooker thread

Moffat in the UK was part of Thorn EMI by the 1970s, I remember my Gran getting a split-level Thorn EMI (possibly Tricity branded?) cooker put in as part of a fitted kitchen around 1980. She had the most modern kitchen on the block (some neighbours still had pantries and double butler-style...

    Keymatic in Penarth, Cardiff

where's the thread for the 3243H? I must have missed that! That's so sad, as I have to say that I think the 3243H is the most handsome of the Keymatics. The console kinda has echoes of the slope front machines, dont'cha think? Those big lights and the largish Hoover logo are nice too. That ad...

    Keymatic in Penarth, Cardiff

It's a 3203! But the seller has decided not to sell it for now. However, they say it may go back up for sale in a couple of months - I'll let everyone here know if they do!

    Keymatic in Penarth, Cardiff

It could be a widebody! I went through the archives here, and Mike had posted a 3223H brochure that mentions 16 programmes. Maybe Which didn't include prewash, spin only and, er, another one. I've emailed the seller to see if it is still available, and to ask the model number. I hope to god...

    Hoover twinnie belt

Hullo, All the belts are still available in the UK - you need the kind that fits the European 3314l/T5002/T5024. espares.co.uk and sparecentre.com both still supply them. If you tip the machine forwards, you should see a belt that runs from the spin side to a pulley in the back middle of the...

    wring-a-ding-ding!

Thanks all! Seamus, let me have a check of the 3314L before I splash out! Mike, I think, mentioned that these later machines motors 'float' on the drive belt, hence the relative lack of out-and-out viciousness! Incidentally, the UHU seems to have fixed the old pump from the wringer washer too -...

    The Keymatic Arrives !!!

Exciting! I'm so glad for you that it came with the transit straps - at least it should be intact mechanically. Looks like it's built like a battleship! I hope you can get her going properly, but rather you than me, I have to say! Hopefully a member with the service manuals can help out. Good...

    wring-a-ding-ding!

And empty The pump is driven by a tyre from the motor, and the impeller runs all the time it empties. Keeping the lid on is vital!
