Okay, here are two known prefixs for Kenmore:
Most WP built appliances will have the prefix 110. So a model # will follow the format 110.xxxxxxxx In many cases (prior to year 2000) the first 2 digits following the period were the model year; e.g., 110.73xxxxx means Whirpool built 1973 model...
I agree that tub volume is not the problem. You can, however, put a restrictor in the discharge to reduce its flow rate. I suggest starting with about 2/3 the inner diameter of the existing hose. (This will result in a little less than 50% of the original area.) Flow is going to be reduced in...
Look closely, she has her mouth wide open and appears to be inhaling. The coins, however, continue on a ballistic trajectory.
Hey, this calls for a song...
Three Coins in a Front Load,
[Cha, cha, cha]
Each one seeking happiness,
Thrown by three hopeful washmaids,
Which one will the Westy bless?
The attitude toward appliance purchases seems to have shifted towards that of commodities, and not so much as a major "white" purchase--expected to last a lifetime. I also think that the industry has created a perceived obsolecense for older appliances, and that that mentality has been fostered...
This is the perfect thread for this:
He, he. He, he, he...
I am the great cornholio. I need TP for my LOW-FLOW!
Hey, a**wipe, lets go get some Nachos.... and try to clog Andersons new toilet.
Yea. That would be cool. Yea, yea; Cool!
He, he, he...
So does it matter if you swallow whole?
But seriously folks.....
My '80's vintage Norris fixtures, which are a mid-flush, transitional design (3-1/2 Gal/flush) are very good performers even on partial flushes using only 1-1/2 gallons of water. (I installed 2 handle, mini-flush kits.)
If...
WD-40 is a good, safe solvent for old gunked up oil residue when used liberally. You're not going to hurt anything with this and it works pretty good. If you need more cleaning power use carb cleaner (e.g., Gumout in a spray can), as it's most convenient. Lacquer Thinner, MEK or even an alcohol...
Back to the topic of steam generation...
Does anyone know what type of steam generator this thing [LG] has? Does it boil water with a calrod type element (time consuming)? Or does it use direct electrode immersion? The later would be relatively quick (like that old Hankscraft vaporizer) but...
My great grandmother had one of these rockers. My grandfather still remembers it vividly; and as he describes it, it made a loud, characteristic whoosh every time it rocked.
cleaning ability
What has made the modern F/L a success in cleaning, at least for stains, are modern detergents, a high concentration of said detergent (ratio of detergent to water) and longer wash times. OH yea, those multiple rinses are necessary to do much of the work, too.
T/L's have...
Funny, Toggle, I was thinking the same thing about F/L cycle times. We know they can't make them [cycle times] shorter, or they would be poor performers (ala Speed Queen). Hey, here's an idea: How about a T/L with Heavy steam or perhaps virtual water?
Who's the real shady?
I'm curious about this one. The Franklin and TL Westinghouse (WCI) are two very different designs. So this is a Franklin tranny? How about a pic. Thanks
In many, if not most, instances you can retrofit an electric ignition type of burner in place of the pilot one with little difficulty. This is easier than retrofitting the existing pilot burner itself because of the integrated flame controls. WP/KM are particularly easy because the burners are...
Those are 1969 models.
I have the "porch" version of that same dryer awaiting restoration. While I'm not sure of the washer's features, I can tell you that the dryer is a Soft Heat version (which means a modulated input burner if it's gas) and it will have and automatic dry cycle + pulser...
Space Command systems debuted while DTMF (touch tone) was still in development. The problem with [simultaneous] dual tones was that the presence of intermodulation distortion made such schemes unreliable. It is worth noting that Bell went to great lengths to assure that the DTMF frequencies...
This may come as no surprise to some of you, but the shippin
Seeing this saddens me and I express my regrets. Unfortuantely, I am not surprised and I think it is pretty typical for trucking/shipping/moving industry. And worse yet, despite all the hype, they just don't give a sh**.
I have...
big drums
While big drums are not the problem, per se, they do result in greater engineering challenges. It appears that it is easier and less costly to use load redistribution than to design a suspension capable of handling and decoupling a moderately off balance load.
In addition to the...
Austin--
Funny you should mention it, but when I was devising a way to do the anti-index, observing my GE 18# gave me the idea to use a positive latch (as opposed to a friction brake). I always kind of liked the way the tub would index for a few seconds and then lock. So I will confess to a...
The surgilator is a staight-vane that just looks really cool
Speaking objectively and as an engineer, I can see no hydro-dynamic reason that the surgilator would perform better (or worse) than an otherwise equivalent sized straight vane. IMO, it is more of a stylistic mark for Whirlpool.
There...
I owned an 18# GE machine with the straight 8 vane agitator--for 25 years. I liked its capacity, it had good turnover and it cleaned well. That being said, it was rough on the clothes and I had to refrain from using longer cycle times. Compared to most other washers, it was also a pretty good...
