Friend of mine found this GE dryer 1DA810Y4W

Trying to cover all the bases, literally.... It could also be a special application unit made for or under a contract that had a specification requirement. GE made many units that were sold into government and military bases (hence the pun). IIRC the DA-820 was a very popular contract model. If...

What is the difference between HP?

It probably is okay.... Manufacturers normally leave some margin for varying loads and power supply voltages as well as a factor for expected life span. Most motors also have some headroom for overload included in their design (a multiplier known as service factor). You have nothing really to...

OK GE Boys, Here's Something New

Congrats... It's a beautiful machine! Glad to see GE getting more well deserved attention and "air time" these days!

    GE Filter-Flow Mechanical Question

Can the outer tub be moved by hand? Sounds like the spin clutch spring isn't grabbing the spin tube or the tub is frozen.

Solid Tubs from the 50's and 60's

Balance rings My '67 Hotpoint uses a heavy mortar that has been cast into the ring.

    1950's!! Kelvinator Orbital Semi Automatic!!!

Kelvinator I would love to know the exact year of this machine. We had the matching Kelvinator electric dryer with those same knobs in the early '60's. (I'm looking, if anyone has a lead.)

Need help concerning a lack of a dryer receptacle

re: extenstion cord Yes, you can make an extention cord, and a properly made cord will work fine. (You mariners and campers can think of it as shore power.) There will be no difference in performance between a properly made ext. cord and a hard wired circuit. Bump up one wire gauge if you are...

    The time has come.....

WTB the following: I'm seriously looking for '57 -->'60 GE solid tub and a Norge solid tub as well. Also, an early '60's Kelvinator dryer, MOL/BOL, in electric.

The ad said 1960 Sears electric dryer...

About the dryer drum styles... For those wondering, the larger capacity, fixed (stationary) back dryers were not introduced until the 1965 model year on the TOL's. The earlier style center pivot drums were used on various mid and BOL models through '67 or '68, IIRC. I currently have a '63...

    GE Activator's through the years...

activators Nice pictorial, Baja. I just want to add that the 1957 P series appears to be identical to that you illustrated for 1958, pink cap and all. I am absolutely sure of this as we once owned the '57 set. Ours came with the copper lint pan.

1960 Kenmore 80 center post repair

Don't give up... Most of the base plates for these machines were similar or the same over a 15+ year period, so it should be easy to find one from a donor machine. I think these would include the 10,12 and 14 pound capacity models built through the mid 70's.

    GE's first gas dryer-when?

Granny had a "P" series GE in gas circa 1957... Yea, I know some of you are going to say it didn't exist--but the reality is that it did. Maybe it was limited production or a test market. Anyway, It was purchased as matching set with the 820P washer (at Gimbles in Pittsburgh) and it had all of...

    EBay Finally Listens

re: ebay "They have also stopped listing who the bidders..." There is also a downside to this: It's harder to keep track of the sellers' cronies who might be bidding items up. I really like to see who I'm bidding against, especially for higher priced items.

Having a look at an old shop

About the horseshoe pump... Also known as a reversing pump, those are very early WP/Kenmore automatic pumps. Before the unidirectional flapper valve pumps were used on the belt drives, the horseshoe pumps were mounted on a hinge and moved by the wig-wag bar cam to control its direction. These...
