    WP Direct Drive Clicking/tapping

Does anyone know if the clutch is actually spinning during the drain portion of a cycle? After the motor pauses after neutral drain, and restarts... the very second it restarts to being spinning the tub, I hear the tapping/clicking sound. From that second the speed/pattern of the sound does...

    WP Direct Drive Clicking/tapping

I have a WP direct drive washer that I did alot of work on after buying it used about 2 years ago. I've replaced the following: Pump, motor coupler, clutch assembly, neutral drain assembly in gearcase, water level switch, water temp switch (w/auto water temp sensing), 3 suspension springs, 3...

    WP Direct Drive Burning Smell

85w-140 affect on temps Would the 85w-140 vs 85w-90 gear oil make the gearcase run at higher temps?

    WP Direct Drive Burning Smell

I'm not 100% positive, but since the smell is like burning/hot oil, I would make an educated guess that it's the gearcase getting hot.

    WP Direct Drive Burning Smell

@coldspot - It seems to be only after it's been agitating for a bit. Also, Yes, I have a speed selection switch with 6 wash/spin speed combos.

    WP Direct Drive Burning Smell

I have a Whirlpool Gold Direct Drive washer w/ 3-speed motor. (Model #: GSW9800PW2) When I run a wash load on the Fast/Fast speed, I start smelling a burning smell that smells somewhat like burning oil. If I run the cycle on Low/High, I don't smell anything. The machine is NEVER overloaded...

    Excessive Drying Time

Dumbed down temps... @appnut - I think you're correct. I did a full load of cotton towels last night, put the temp on Sanitize, Sensor Dry, Energy Pref., and the load was dried in about 50 minutes... on "High" heat, it takes nearly 90 minutes to dry the same type of load... Go figure, gov't...

    Excessive Drying Time

Not Energy Star Just pulled up my model on my cell, and the specs state that it's not Energy Star. On my PC the gray "X" next to items in the specs list means "No", a green check mark means "Yes".

Whirlpool Direct Drive compatible alternate agitators

Thanks to everyone for all of your input. I think I'll most likey find a good used WP/Kenmore dual action agitators to replace the worn one currently in my machine. If anyone has any additional input or suggestions, feel free to add. Right now I'm thinking of getting this one...

    Excessive Drying Time

@appnut - You know, I thought the same thing just this morning! I actually have a full load of heavy towels in the wash right now, I will try the Energy Prefered auto dry setting and Sanitize heat setting, and report back. I'll actually use a stopwatch on my computer just to see how long the...

Whirlpool Direct Drive compatible alternate agitators

Yes, I have the 3 speed motor with 6 speed combo switch. I wonder if it would be better to find a KitchenAid agitator, and replace the high speed with low, (what would be "Regular" on some of the Kenmores). Even using the same cycle times that I typlically use, I might even get better cleaning...

Just Picked Up - 2000 Whirlpool Direct Drive

I'd hang on to that DD, spend a bit and go ahead and replace the coupler, clutch, pump, and agitator dogs, and use it! They don't make them like that anymore. I'm currently looking for a 2nd direct drive to put into my climate controlled storage unit just because I can NOT stand these new "HE"...

    Excessive Drying Time

Model Specs I did purchase the dryer at lowes, here's the link to my model https://www.lowes.com/pd/Maytag-7-cu-ft-Electric-Dryer-White/50259737 I don't see selected in the spec listing, thankfully. My neighbor has a new GE dryer that's Energy Star rated and she says hers takes nearly twice...

Whirlpool Direct Drive compatible alternate agitators

Dilemma of replacing an agitator (LOL) @tomdawg: I have seen those wide fin KitchenAid DAAs. I wonder if you smelled that because the wider and larger fins create more resistance in the water, therefore putting more strain on the motor/gearcase? -------- My current dilemma is this: The teeth...

Whirlpool Direct Drive compatible alternate agitators

In that case it should work, as my machine is 3.2 cu. ft. https://www.ajmadison.com/cgi-bin/ajmadison/GSW9800PW.html

    Excessive Drying Time

I don't see an Energy Star logo, and it has the same part number 5400 watt heating element as my previous Whirlpool, compared it to a spare element that I bought when I had the WP, and the part #'s match. The gov't putting their noses into our washers is bad enough (The reason I have a WP DD...

    Excessive Drying Time

Cool Down Times Thanks for confirming combo. I'm assuming the only way to determine this is to remove the rear cover of the dryer and run a load looking for the glow from the bottom of the heater box, correct? Would you happen to know what the length of the no heat cooldown period is at the...

    Excessive Drying Time

Single phase 240v I did a little googling and discovered that you can check your electric meter outside to find out if you're running on single phase 240v or 3-phase 208v power. I'm running on single phase 240v 3 wire, so I would assume that it would ONLY be possible for my dryer to be running...

Whirlpool Direct Drive compatible alternate agitators

Also, would my existing agitator bolt work to attach any of these agitators, or would I need to order a different one? i.e. different length or something?
