Closer view of the Control Panel... The control panel didn't turn out as nice as I would have desired, but it's a FAR CRY from what it was!

    Rustified Maytag Agitator Shaft

Is there any way to fix or replace the agitator shaft in the old Maytag Helical transmissions? If you've seen my previous threads I'm fixing up an old Highlander and unfortunately the agitator shaft is just too far gone to make a seal. I've done my searching online and can't find one either. Not...

Well we've hit a snag..... Well we've hit a snag in the restoration progress.....The agitator shaft is too far gone to make a good seal.....which really SUCKS by the way since the machine is finished otherwise! I cleaned all the rust off and decided to try it to see if I could by some chance be...

What does a 'Shredmore' look like?

Believe it or not, they're actually VERY reliable machines. Not much goes wrong since it's all direct-drive. That said, the mean-ness to the clothing probably prompts a lot of people to get the front-loaders when their washer konks out since the front loaders are so much easier on clothing...

What does a 'Shredmore' look like?

GE Filter-Flo The GE Filter-Flo's do have a quicker short-arc stroke, but it should also be noted that even on high speed, they still agitate slower than a Shredmore on Low! The ramped agitator is nowhere near as rough on clothes as the Shredmore agitator is. Now if you stick a straight vane...

Some more... Here's the siphon break and (I'm assuming) the original fill valve. Has the old cursive Maytag logo on it, but it wont' stop running, so it's getting replaced. Do NOT ask me why there's a piece of hose defeating the siphon break. The thing works fine without it. All I can figure is...

What does a 'Shredmore' look like?

And here's the telltale basket. If you see the tall, skinny basket, and the corkscrew agitator, it is ALWAYS a Shredmore. Some of the skinnier, smaller capacity Shredmores also have straight vane agitators which are even rougher on clothes.

What does a 'Shredmore' look like?

Here's a couple pix of an early Shredmore from '88. Anything newer than this will ALWAYS be a shredmore.

    Trash compactors

Did I miss something? Ummm.......do other states NOT have the curb-side recycling pickup? I happen to know for a fact that here all you do is dump your recyclables into the bin and haul it out to the curb on trash day. They do all the sorting when it hits the truck. Sadly the only things I...

    Kenmore Washer Starting Issue

I think you missed it... You missed what we were saying......if the motor starts AT ALL.....that means if it even labors.....the capacitor is good.....if it even has one! The agitator usually is locked since it goes through an array of gears, and the tub normally will spin by hand. You should...

    Kenmore Washer Starting Issue

If the motor starts AT ALL, then the capacitor is good. When the capacitor goes, the motor will just sit there and hum, but not turn. Like DADoEs suggested, check the pump. If that's all ok, check to see if the motor is actually pulling out of it's start winding. If it isn't, it could be that...

My youtube goes a bit wonky at times too. It's REALLY annoying too since there's nobody to contact to complain about it! But yes, you can expect a video, as well as more pictures. I've got the injector and siphon break all cleaned up and nice, and currently working on re-painting the lettering...

1960 Maytag Highlander Restoration Progress (Pix)

Scale Removal I used a non-scratching tub scrubber and "The Works" toilet bowl cleaner. The lime scale was so thick, that it required some heavy artillery! Squirt on, let sit a few minutes, scrub off what will come off, rinse. Repeat. It takes a very long time, lots of scrubbing and...
