Maytag Highlander 126 Has New Home!

Well we went to San Antonio today to pick up the Highlander that was advertised as needing a new home. The place was easy to find, and we picked it up and hauled it off. So here's the thing....it needs a motor. Is there anything special I need to find for it? Everything turns freely underneath...

    FireFox Error

Crapware..... Is precisely why I use a Mac. Servicing PeeCees all day long makes you truly appreciate a computer you literally don't have to do anything to. Not trying to start a flame war.....seriously!

    FireFox Error

You're missing the point... If you haven't cleaned off the computer, no browser is going to save you. Give it time and the new Firefox that you installed (that's slow) and the Google Chrome will be infected too. Clean the machine off before going any further. The link to one of the best...

    Icemakers and Vintage Reefers...

Clear Ice My ancient KA icemaker makes clear ice in the little 3/4" cubes. It's just fantastic! I'm with you...once you've had it, you never go back. Absolutely no taste whatsoever, no minerals, nothing! With regular tap water! I love my KA. Even better that it was free! Only needed a water...

Skinny Mini... So........when can we expect a video of that Skinny Mini?

    Icemakers and Vintage Reefers...

Stand-Alone IceMaker As an option you can always get a stand-alone icemaker and stash it away in a closet somewhere. I have a 1993 Kitchen-Aid icemaker that's in my utility closet that I use during the spring and summer. During the winter months i turn on the built-in icemaker in the 'fridge...

    FireFox Error

Download and run Spybot Search & Destroy. Link posted below. Sounds like a buildup of "crapware" to me. http://www.safer-networking.org

    FireFox Error

It depends......what were you doing when it gave you that error? Always the same site? Usually an error like that indicates the page you're viewing is borked. If that's not the case, try running something like SpyBot Search & Destroy to see if you've got an adware infestation.

    Filter-Flo Help!

Greasy Lint... Oh this one's definitely got the greasy lint. I pulled the motor and sourced a replacement. The overload is definitely still open. Start and Run windings check out good so it's a shame the switch went bad. It appears it's embedded in the motor under the stamped end bell. The...

    Filter-Flo Help!

Did some prodding... The service chart and schematic (God I hate one-liners...) were in the console for this washer, so I bailed it out and started prodding for problems. Timer operation: check. Voltage at motor: check. Start winding: check. Run winding: check. Motor overload: Houston....we...

    Filter-Flo Help!

Well I got the Filter-Flo today, but we're having an inexplicable problem. It runs great and does a teriffic job washing. But if it does a heavy load, or does several loads in succession, the motor turns off somewhere around the "Rinse" section of the cycle. The power doesn't die and the timer...

Where Do You See The Laundry Business Going?

WOW! Well no wonder laundromats are a dead thing there! The top loaders here are $1.00-$1.25 depending on the machine. The old Helical Maytags tend to be $1.00 (mechanical coin mechanisms) and the Filter-Flo's tend to be $1.25. The old Dexters (70's vintage from the look) tend to be $1.50...

Where Do You See The Laundry Business Going?

I think it has a lot to do with the area you live in and the cross section of the population in a given area that determines the usefulness of a laundromat. Here in town, there are 5 laundromats that I can think of immediately. They all use Helical Maytags or GE Filter-Flo's with some really old...

    GE Filter-Flo FS Dispenser?

Vacuum Videos Well this house is so small that collecting more than 1-2 washers is out of the question (although I'd like to) so vacuum collecting fills the void! There's so many misconceptions about older machines (laundry equipment included) that it's neat to actually show something like that...

    Which washer do you have?

I've got the same Frigidaire front-loader that RevvinKevin has above, but just a newer model from 2006!

    GE Filter-Flo FS Dispenser?

This is my first time posting here, so I apologize if I posted in the wrong section... Does anyone know where I can find a fabric softener dispenser for a GE filter-flo? I'm getting an early 80s model that's got everything BUT the dispenser. I don't wanna have to resort to the Downy ball if I...

    FOCA - Update

Ex-Lurker... Nah...I won't be lurking so much anymore. I just had to finally have a reason to join the site! I'm getting an '80s Filter-Flo washer this weekend, so I'm using that as an excuse to join. Yeah.....that sounds good...

    FOCA - Update

Foca in a FL So this is my first post here....I've lurked on this site for a long time, but never signed up! I found the Foca detergent at Wal-Mart today and decided to try it since I was out of Tide. I'll have to say I was impressed by it. I have a front-load Frigidaire washer and it seems to...
