some cool scratch -n- dent finds

"Actually, your friends ended up with the best pair--each unit being sttrongest in its market segment. The match to the washer only has a 5.7 cu. ft. drum. This dryer is 7.5 cu. ft. Makes a big difference in drying the big loads that awsher can handle." Agreed, the top lint filter Whirlpools...

    Neptune Woes

Don't forget one other thing. The door latch/control board is a common problem. But the neptune uses a stretch belt and an extremely fast spinning motor. Is the noise like a screech? The belt may be stretched, the drum isn't getting up to speed properly, the washer "sees" this and puts it back...

    Service tool - WP/KM

That was a good deal. I get by without one of those. I use an open end wrench, still one of the sides in a notch and hit the wrench with a hammer. Similar to the screwdriver+hammer trick, but more controllable.

    GE monitor tops

I've only seen pictures of these. They look pretty cool. So is the compressor AND condenser on top? Or only the compressor? A neat system, although it's probably top heavy. Apparently there are lots of these running still. Anyone here have one or seen one? I posted below about a 50s Crosley at...

    hm?

Ooops, I didn't read closely enough, thanks.

    What think ye of GE?

Ah I didn't know the Frigidaires still didn't have a brake. That design has got to be due for a change pretty soon.

    hm?

I was sure I posted about a Crosley Shelvador here last night, did anyone see it before it disappeared?

    Crosley Shelvador

It looks almost identical to this one (but the latch release is a large metal button, not a handle) http://www.antiqueappliances.com/products/crosley/1952_crosley_shelvador_refrigerator.htm

    What think ye of GE?

"This thread started out with you asking about GE washers and ends with a huge technical discussion of Krushers. I an LMAO because I think this pretty much settles what everyone on this board thinks of GE top load washers. I think even the Frigidaire top loaders get more respect around here."...

    Crosley Shelvador

Well this is certainly a classic! Single door Crosley Shelvador at work. The really heavy metal, round corners and edges, no fans or defrost systems at all. It may even be old enough to be an ammonia or SO2 fridge. The freezer probably hasn't been defrosted for 10 years. Suprising how quiet the...

    Plastic Hotpoint Story

A tankless water heater has no dip tube and new water heaters have dip tubes and the plastic used will now last for 100 years (lol, if the heater could last that long). A company called perfection made 95% of the plastic dip tubes for all the major North American water heater makers, rheem was...

    Favorite 90s washer

Might be a boring thread for some. But what's your favorite washer that was available in the 90s? Mine would be the belt drive Kenmore/Whirlpools (yes, up here they were available until 1994, which is why our 1988 KM was a belt drive). A close 2nd would be the DD KM/WP. Both designs intrique me...

    Plastic Hotpoint Story

The sediment in the hot side could have been the water heater dip tube (white chunks, it probably was) Water heaters from 1993-1997 had bad dip tubes (ours was one). The plastic falls apart and the tube either breaks apart and clogs pipes, fill valves or the tube breaks right off (like ours...

    Fleecy fabric softener

Yeah, that's the only thing about the liquid, i'm guessing in a few months there will be a build up. Oh well, just an excuse to take the agitator off! The KM DD is holding up great. It gets quite the work out, fluffy king size bed spread every 2-4 weeks. Plus I am not very "kind" with my load...

    Fleecy fabric softener

No, I meant i'm still in Canada, not sure why it says USA.

    Fleecy fabric softener

    Ya, it says USA?

    Fleecy fabric softener

Yes, i'm almost positive it was downy april fresh. I think I will get that when the fleecy runs out, i'll try a few different ones.

    Fleecy fabric softener

Haven't been here for quite some time. Well we just bought fleecy fabric softener. I haven't used any fabric softener for 5 years, and before that it was always dryer sheets. I remember my grandma using downy in the maytag washer. Made the whole house smell good. What are the best smelling...

adjustible temperature on 1 setting dryers

Gas vs electric Well that depends on the price of the gas and electricity. Also, if i'm not mistaken, gas does have higher energy than an equivalent electrical unit, but all dryers uses similar heat output (so the burner is burning less gas than the element is running current). It can get...
