Frigilux, see 4th photo^ it was blue. In a post on Houzz someone showed a photo of the Walmart variety, and it was white I think. I'm not sure why blue would be bad. Especially for whites, it could even be good. Bluing was used instead of fluorescent OBs back in the day right?

John, what do you mean by vast? For one thing, I've heard that many Mexicans wash their clothes by hand, at least many compared to the US. At my market, they sell washboards and on the packaging of Ariel and other powders, there are directions on how to wash by hand. I don't know if this is...

Kenmore 90's Washer leaking oil? Or just Dirty?

I wonder what that yellow gunk is that the ants were eating... weird... Thx chips, nice to know it's nothing crazy. I did hang the laundry outside and then finished with a dryer tumble. I wonder if it was the dryer. Hopefully I cant get rid of the spots :( Is there a way to mitigate the lint...

Kenmore 90's Washer leaking oil? Or just Dirty?

    - Last, here's the inside of the impeller. I think there's a little dark liquid in around the rim of that top hole. A few black specs inside and streaks.

    - Lower down, we have kind of a dusty paste around the bottom of the shaft. Also some rust in places. - The same stuff is in the holes on the floor of the drum.

Kenmore 90's Washer leaking oil? Or just Dirty?

Got a set over a year ago. Model 91210100, is that 80 series? Looks like this, but maybe our washing is bigger. Or I could be imagining:  Seems to be leaving oil splotches on clothing? I'm not sure, it showed up on my last load of darks and I'm scared to keep washing. I'd like to know if...

"Ya know, Every Now and Then"....(in my best Tina Turner Voice)

@sears9000 I was thinking about this too. In times past, homemaking was a much more visible aspect in one's life. People just have very different lifestyles now, because there is a freedom of sorts thanks to various technology. Plus some social revolutions. And... maybe some politics and wars...

Now you're making me want to visit the Walmart again! I keep forgetting what bags I've seen where. A good 1/4 of our town is Mexican.

@frigilux on the Tide thread you said you got yours at Walmart? And in Spanish? And it's blue? Strange............. Here are photos that I posted in the Houzz thread. To my eye, it looks identical to the OP who got their's tested.  I also noticed that some were able to find the manufacture...

    Powder Laundry Detergent

Are any of those Persils OB free? And how can you tell? @gyrafoam, hows that Bendix treating you? Does it really bend? Also, I've seen that HTD stuff before, but I'm wondering if for residential, you run a big risk of all the STPP turning into TSP. Just because it'd be sitting around. I've...

Just thought I'd make a mirror thread of sorts to what's been going on at Houzz. Tl;dr is that someone tested a Mexican Ariel package and it was positive for phosphates. http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/4706094/stocked-up-ariel-powder#20518007 I'm currently also ordering a test kit for my...

Using modern enzyme detergent in old vintage dishwasher?

Hi there, I have a 70's Hobart KA dishwasher, and as much as I would like to continue using and STPP product, I'm kind of tired of paying for it. That Cascade boil out stuff aint cheap, and adding STPP isn't really that cheap either honestly (plus its another thing I have to mix up). Anyways, I...
