Repairing a non-cooling GE CK35 Monitor Top / start-relay modification...

Hi Bill, I'm happy you enjoyed the repair videos! I have done field service work since I was approximately 20 years old and my face has become very weathered from the sun. I should have used more sunscreen I guess. I would much rather look old than feel old; so I guess I shouldn't complain. ...

    Repairing a non-cooling GE CK35 Monitor Top / start-relay modification...

Thanks, Lawrence, and Melvin. I really appreciate your replies! My attitude is that whatever is wrong needs to be addressed. If you have a non-working fridge, there is not much to lose; so go for it! :)

    Repairing a non-cooling GE CK35 Monitor Top / start-relay modification...

Hi John; thanks for the note! That evaporator is made of very thin metal, so it wasn't too hard to straighten it; as you saw. Back in this day, stainless steel was a very costly and exotic alloy, so they were very conservative with its use. And you're right about having more freezer space! ...

    Repairing a non-cooling GE CK35 Monitor Top / start-relay modification...

This CK35 unit belongs to a fellow enthusiast and goes with a very nice porcelain three-door cabinet. The refrigerator was bought in "working" condition but it only cooled a few passes of the smaller evaporator. There was...

    mid-80s cars...

Lada Brendan; that's neat that you were able to find a genuine Russian Lada in your area. Those are legendary in their home country. Also interesting about the modifications made to the car for the Canadian market.

    mid-80s cars...

Latin America models... Hi Jesus R. I remember a "grey market" car which was found in the States. It was a Mexican specification Buick Century. It had what appeared (at first) to be diesel-specification instrument cluster, without any Check Engine lamp nor "Unleaded Fuel" markings. The engine...

    mid-80s cars...

80's project cars... I was / am into the 80's GM cars. Have several Buick and Olds cars; plus a 72 Chevy Nova. My screen name comes from my hobby of building turbocharger systems for these cars. I've built 6 or 7 of them. Out of my collection, the favorites are my 84 Buick Century and 86...

    1987 Speed Queen electronic-touch laundry pair, 6 month follow-up....

Hi Melvin. Thanks for your reply. The belt came from a local appliance repair shop. I took the model number to their shop and they provided the belt. It was not a SQ factory part, but supposedly cross-referenced to it. Can't remember if it appeared to have a cloth outer covering or not to be...

    1987 Speed Queen electronic-touch laundry pair, 6 month follow-up....

So; it's been a little over 6 months since I got this "like new" Speed Queen pair. I want to make a follow-up about how my experience has been with them. The original thread has lots of info about how I came to acquire them in this condition. It is linked at the bottom of this post. I was...

Very happy the site is back up! Many people really appreciate the effort you put into these sites. It is sad that you're considering selling the sites, but I understand that situations change and people have to pursue other interests eventually.

New to me 1957 NORGE Customatic

Yes that sounds like a thermostat problem for sure. The failing to start and clicking is due to a restart attempt before the system has had time for the low and high pressure sides of the system to equalize. That is normal for most home fridges if a restart attempt is made before about 10 or 15...

New to me 1957 NORGE Customatic

It is entirely possible that the excess frosting was due to neglect. It could also be a result of a thermostat problem. Either way; that is a very nice example you have there! There has got to be an interesting story as to how it ended up sitting so long like that. Sincerely, David

Lamenting and heartbroken over my vintage Hitachi manual washing machine 1977

Could you show pictures of the pump? There is likely a way to adapt something and make this work.
