Pretty optimistic price.... It'd have to be a N.I.B. KDS18 or 20 to pull anywhere near 500. Got my equally nice KDS20 for a touch over $100.....

Jae: Here's the actual cord-reel problem Opened it up and found the problem. The brake pad is actually fine. What IS outta whack is the tension spring which is supposed to be affixed to the nylon centre pin has snapped from it. That nylon pin also has a split/crack in it from the retaining...

Circa 1982-3 ish Ralph, I have the same compactor. Mine's 1983....I think the model appeared circa '79 or so and ran til about '83. I will take mine to whichever home I move to next. It's a GREAT unit. Can't replace it with anything better, really!

Kohler's Turquoise... Bill, In a house I'm looking at buying, is a Kohler Rochelle toilet and matching tub in what might be the same colour you mention. It's called New Orleans Blue...circa 1969-early 80s. Long, long discontinued....

I'm one of those who covets Kohler fixtures of the 60s through 80s. Grew up with the stuff. Pricey and always attractive. Now if this set was in Kohler's Tiger Lily glaze (reddish orange), I'd be running after it all!

There is a member up here (Cory / Cadman?) who restores Amana Microwave ovens, some of which are Touchmatics with the VFD componentry. If he can't do it himself, I'll wager a bet he can put you in touch with a person who is familiar with reviving these...It's worth a shot. If any one here...

Not to worry.... I have two spare sets of very nice racks. Others up here have parts as well. Don't trash your machine, whatever you do. It's so easily saveable!

I have to say--I love my KDS20 as well. No one else who comes over does, though. "It's SO LOUD!"....hahahah. I like the sounds of clanging solenoids and rushing water. It's the sound of work being done. And QUICKLY compared to this new 2-hour cycle machinery...
