    Spiffy Hotpoint BOL

The plastic-tub Permatuf (Louisville) design was so successful and so inexpensive to manufacture that it really did take over the market. GE could crank out the tubs (once they had the tooling and molds in place--up front cost...little more to them than a plastic swimming pool) for a minimal...

    Frigidaire Trash Compactor

I think these were GM made, doubtless in Dayton.

    Spiffy Hotpoint BOL

Believe the last use of the porcelain tubs was for the portable/convertibles. Probably could get away with the telescoping anti-tip leg (rather than needing a ballast weight which PermaTuf would have required). Think these were produced through the 1990s (and also were offered in Canada....they...

When were Roper Washers first introduced?

Not to be pedantic, but there were Roper dishwashers in the 70s (mfg by D&M) in order to fit out low-end built-in kitchens (apartments/mobile homes/etc).

Questions about the G.E. Mark 27

They did an update of this (again, replacement market) labeled "Spacemaker" (which was GE's trademark for the undercabinet appliances etc) with slanted stacked burner controls and an electronic oven control. You're better off with this one...

Some interesting Brazil ads from 1960

Been glancing through Archive.org and found this magazine with some interesting appliance ads for Brazil 1960. https://archive.org/details/CurveloNotciasN.15-1962/curvelo_noticias_n_015_12_1962_high/page/n27/mode/1up

Help identifying RCA Whirlpool portable fridge/cooler

I'd estimate slightly earlier--'61-68 (as they lost the ability to market as RCA WP in about the 1968 time frame. Cool stuff--need to get out to Croswell to see it :)

Hard-Water Rinse - Calgon - PotD - Norge Dispenser Wheel

The water is just so much more hard in hard water areas particularly in the UK (which aren't just rural/well water areas---was amazed at how bad the water was during a stay in Luton, England). Often amusing in the US to see pallets of water softener salt at rural gas stations and areas where...

    New Dishwasher

A-men to the "take your dishes to the store". Now that supply chains have been restored and we HAVE choices, it's the best way. There is nothing more annoying over the life of a dishwasher than having racking not work for your dishes. Our 10 yr old cheap Bosch (plastic tub) fits 80 percent...

    No-Scare Frigidaire

Darn----if we would be out in Palm Springs before next October, I'd be all over that!!!

    Swedish kitchen adverts part 2

Loved that use of the telephone system (Ericsson, natch) to simplify washday. Visited Stockholm about 25 years ago and had a neat visit to their telecom museum. The structure of the telecom industry in most of the rest of the world is different than in North America, but (particularly in...

Who makes these Hamilton Beach dual fuel stoves?

There are scads of "labelers" slapping names (old and made-up) on Chinese-made appliances...in redoing our kitchen out in Palm Springs we had options of vendors such as "Empava" "Thor" "Sharp" not to mention the private labels like Hisense or Blomberg (which at least have some level of design...

    Ariel Multi - initial thoughts…

yeah--looks like a standard non-bio formula. Probably slightly easier on the hands (for surface cleaning) than a bio formula.

    Fels Naptha Changes again.

My grandfather was funny--he worked in industry most of his life but only was in his element when he started being an adjunct professor after retiring. A couple "I remembers"...he wore contact lenses after cataract surgery in the mid'60s (i.e. early). He had a bottle of a specific brand...

    New Washer Day this Thursday!

Cars in the '70s...oy! Consumer Reports used to state the number of defects on delivery---rarely under 20, they were particularly scathing about some Chrysler products in the 70s (in 1979 remember them talking about 40 defects on a Dodge St. Regis). I remember making lists of several items for...
