The JE 896D1AV General electric versa Tronic range

It's interesting that GE didn't play in microwave ovens before this...Tappan and Westinghouse were the only household microwaves (individual built in wall oven form factor). GE clearly had the hit of the decade with the P7 pyrolytic system, but only after that was well established did they...

Do you use heated dry on your dishwasher?

I've heard that the insulation on the outside is to manage the heat loss which maximizes the condensation. THat's why it's more solid than fluffy fibreglass.

Do you use heated dry on your dishwasher?

Yes--just use Sani on the cheap Bosch in Detroit--2:20 later the crockery and glasses are fine to be put away, a few little driblets on the silverware/plastics. Out in Palm Springs, the zeolite is a little better (but the climate helps probably more. I'm not an "immediate putter-awayer" so will...

My thoughts on the Miele G7166

Bought a Bosch 800 series for our condo in Palm Springs during COVID---it was the pre-Wifi version as far as I can tell. Can't say I'm happier with it than the 100 series from 11 years ago we've had in Detroit...it is quieter; but I don't find the 3rd rack all that convenient and it cleans no...

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Twenty-eight

Our first color TV was a 19 inch Sears which was picked up on a Saturday and we watched All in the Family that evening on KMOX channel 4 St. Louis. It perched on a late 50s RCA console in the basement that my parents had bought used several years before.

Splendide Vented Washer/Dryer combo 110 v. Any thoughts?

I suspect you may be able to do as well with one of the GE or LG heat pump all in ones--check out the power company which may give you a rebate on those (doubt that they will with a specialty unit like this) to get the price down.

    Axion X Marks the Spot

I actually recall that jingle----seems like the timing for Colgate-Palmolive for that branding was a bit off because this would have been about the moment that X-rated movies became a "thing" in the greater culture. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Age_of_Porn

    GE Dishwasher filter question

We've had a GE dishwasher with this filter in a very hard water area along with a Bosch in a similarly hard water area and also one in a soft water area. The filter seems to get limed up a bit, and the flexible nylon (as opposed to the Bosch's stainless steel) doesn't clean up as well. It...

    POD 12-17-2024 Preway Dishwashers

This was the era of the AGA trying to fill the kitchen/house with gas-fueled appliances and muscle out those knaves from the Edison Electric Institute and their Gold Medallion program. Yesterday I ended up going down a bunny trail of the Caloric Disposer.....incinerator from the early 60s.

    Dawn Ruined By P&G

I still remember a story on NPR in roughly 1994 during Morning Edition as I was driving to work (so would have been about 7:40 am......lol) about dial-up and running out of ports/phone numbers/...as I worked in numbering at US Cellular it was quite important

Can a heated mattress pad be placed UNDER a mattress topper?

There are two different designs--not sure which is better or more convenient. One (for a king size) uses a single plug into the wall and has the two controls on a T circuit with a single plug-into the mattress pad. The other has two entirely separate circuits, two plugs into the wall, etc. A...

    Bought a pressure cooker

sorry for the confusion---yes, with the rack in and only a cupful (my mom was famous for boiling two potatoes cut into quarters for dinner many nights in a Revere Ware saucepan, then marveling that there was always some left (yet when she made more interesting potatoes they'd all disappear----my...

    Bought a pressure cooker

That was always the refrain of Thanksgiving--the Mirro-Matic rattling with the potatoes to be mashed. My mom used the pressure cooker for bulk potato boiling (potato salad in the summer; mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving). among other things.

Thanksgiving Is About Two Weeks Away-What's Everyone Cooking

Heading to my aunt's in Oberlin, Ohio for a dinner at her CCRC, Kendal at Oberlin. Avoiding the local family due to the election drama. It's such a late Thanksgiving (short Christmas season) that it feels a bit weird this year.

GE Cafe appliances "Matte White" finish

Actually the matte white finish is pretty attractive, and far easier to keep clean than, say, the textured finish of a refrigerator. Soft cloth/no abrasives and no Magic Erasers/Scotch Brite/etc

    queen dishwasher

Believe I'd seen mention of SQ dishwashers in Canada, but not beyond the wit of mankind to label a few in the US to help loyal SQ dealers round out a line with a lower cost DW than KitchenAid (which would have been these type dealers higher-end offering).
