    Hoover Keymatic!!

I absolutely love Keymatics, but really they weren't very good machines. They were unnecessarily complicated and quite unreliable. The wash action is poor due to the tub tilting backwards when full and the extremely high water level, the clothes aren't so much lifted out of the water and dropped...

    Hoover Keymatic!!

In the new downloads, that pin is called the transax pin. (point 19 in section 4.) I drilled mine out when I pulled mine apart years ago, but the manual says to punch it INWARDS, into the pulsator shaft tunnel. I'd use a parallel pin punch, Bunnings sells sets of them. You would have already...

    Hoover Keymatic!!

Oh wow, thanks for uploading those! Such a great resource. The part 7 spare parts section - the cover shows something that confirms a memory from my childhood that I have long puzzled over. As a child we always had Hoover upright vacuum cleaners, always bought from the local Hoover store...

    Hoover Keymatic!!

I wonder if a car inner tube of the right diameter could be adapted to repair your door boot? You'd have to slit it around the inner diameter and try to marry it in with glue or silicone. The Keymatic boot is so different to other washing machine boots, it's more like an inner tube than another...

    Hoover Keymatic!!

BTW sorry I forgot to say the obvious... Congratulations on your Keymatic. It looks great.

    Hoover Keymatic!!

People all over the world are looking for a door seal. Good luck. I sent a door seal that had minor damage to someone in the UK to be used as a mould for a reproduction to be created, I don't remember how that worked out, but I think it proved too expensive. Are you sure the drum is seized? The...

Blackstone Prices from 50 Years Ago

Remember that Blackstone's top loading automatic design lived on in Australia as Hoovers until the 1980s. 500, 600, 700, 800, and I think 900 series. 500 series were basically Blackstone's design. 600 series had a changed dashboard and had an odd neutral drain brake operated by water pressure -...

    Frigidaire Unimatic in Germany

Yes there appears to be no timer, just switches on a brass back plate. If timer failed, maybe converted to manual operation? Or maybe a coin-op with internal timer, buttons to select hot-warm-cold? (coin box can be separate, mounted on the wall - have seen then in New Zealand.)

    Storing your washers and dryers

Adam, find out (if you can) what company manufactured the shed and go see them. If you don't know who manufactured it, take some photos of it, including showing the framework (if any) and take the photos to a few shed sales places, they may recognize what it is. Watch a few videos (youtube) on...

    Storing your washers and dryers

probably easier and cheaper to modify the door on the existing shed.

    New ride

That is a lovely looking car Louis, I really like that shade of blue. Unfortunately Citroen have recently pulled out of Australia, so we won't see them new any longer. They have always been a "fringe" brand here - a small group of devoted customers, but most Aussies are afraid of "funny French"...

My latest find - whirlpool 1600 Australian Made

I have read here before that in the US, the side opening lid was only on Kenmores. In Australia, all belt-drive Whirlpools had a side opening lid - the machines were made in Australia by Malleys, under license to Whirlpool corporation, and were uniquely Australian models, using many Australian...

ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS - Please Read This...

Thank you Robert for creating this amazing website, and with it, creating a world-wide community of appliance enthusiasts.   You have taught me so much about washing machines in particular - I had no idea there were 4 different generations of up-n-down Frigidaires (Uni, Pulsa, Multi and...

Now the Whirlpool Arcelik hybrids are coming

I originally asked if Whirlpool owned Arcelik now, but I have found the answer on Wikipedia, so I edited out my original question.   Some Whirlpool factories were sold to Arcelik, and Arcelik now have a joint venture with Whirlpool.    More details in the link below.   Arcelik have...

Wanted: Frigidaire Jet cone agitator cap

I don't think the machine in the photos is a Rollermatic. This is an Australian Frigidaire, made on the same site as the Holden car plant in Dandenong. The one my family had when I was a kid had a Multimatic transmission in it, and the same jet-action agitator shown above. I'm reasonably...

Apartment Size Vintage GM Frigidaire Range

apartment size That looks to be the same size as a normal size Australian stove, which are usually 54 or 60 cm wide - I think that's 21 or 24 inches. How wide is it?

    VOA

Patsy Widakuswara When I read Tom's post above, I noticed the name "Widakuswara" and thought it looked like an Indonesian name.   I studied Indonesian at school and university, I have never been there yet but my partner and I are finally visiting there in August.  I am very excited about...

My Rubber Molding Skills Saves My 1953 Apex Wash-a-Matic!

A brilliant repair, thanks for documenting it for us.   What an ingenious mechanism, using water pressure to engage spin, and releasing the water pressure if out of balance.   Do you know what the minimum water pressure is? I wonder if it would work on my gravity feed water supply?  (normal...

Wanted: Frigidaire Jet cone agitator cap

Wow that's the model my family had when I was a kid. Dashboard wasn't blue though - ours was light brown, like milk chocolate.
