PSA: Reply # versus date & time

Post number is another way to identify a reply, but providing the date and time makes it easier.  I'm willing to deal with the issue of reply numbers that don't match what I see in exchange for the ongoing relief that the hide option affords.

Okeefe and Merritt Dual Fuel Range

I was super curious about a dual fuel range of this vintage, and then I realized it was a trash & gas model.  I had a cream with orange accents TOL trash & gas Wedgewood from 1937 for a while and loved using the trash burning feature for little odds and ends, but never for actual cooking.  The...

    Input/Thoughts appreciated

The Philco stove is a real beauty.  Considering it has a clock and a minute timer, is the blank plate between the burner controls reserved for something else, and if so, what would it be?

    Iterations of the Waring Blendor

I forgot to mention that among my spare Blendor carafes, the thickness of the glass varies.  One of them came with the snap-on handle attachment and it's thicker than the others, in addition to having a greenish tint to the top rim of the carafe, similar to vintage Coke bottles.  The handle fits...

    Iterations of the Waring Blendor

Great work, Jon Charles!   It appears that the taller, slimmer version of the "waterfall" tiered motor housing was indeed the first style per the patent documents.  I've never seen one in real life.  It's a shame that they dropped the original blade design.  The symmetrical blades that...

    Tv lamp socket

Derek,  here are some pictures I took of a dusty old panther lamp that may help.  I think the way the socket attaches fits Steve's description above.  Ultimately, you may have to take your lamp to a lighting shop since the fittings seem to be specialized.  They may just sell you the parts for a...

    KitchenAid stand mixers

After seeing those pictures, I don't feel so bad about having a couple of extra mixers and pressure cookers.

Let me guess.  The OP was made on a cell phone's app.

As of 2025, What are the best clean rinsing laundry detergents in the U.S ?

Arm & Hammer When I first lived with Dave, he was using A&H Washing Soda.  I hated that stuff.  I had trouble putting my socks on because they were so stiff and full of residue, and he had a very capable, nearly TOL black panel Kenmore belt drive washer.  When that giant box of A&H was empty, I...

    vintage telephones on moderm line

Eddie, I know -- but when my sister lived in Berkeley, which was still a 415 area code back then (510 went live in late 1991 IIRC) I would always dial ten digits, but then our next door neighbor told me she just dialed the 7-digit number to Berkeley so I started doing the same thing and calls...

    vintage telephones on moderm line

Up until about ten years ago, we didn't ever have to dial 1 -- even for long distance.  Before that, we didn't even have to dial all ten digits for adjacent area codes.  Then the overlay area code went live and the permissive dialing period ended and we didn't just have to start dialing 1 -- we...

    vintage telephones on moderm line

I'm seriously considering the abandonment of switched network telephony which has become ridiculously expensive through AT&T -- like ten times the price for flat rate service when I started working for Pacific Bell in 1991.  So much for any rate increase denials from the CPUC since the arrogant...

    Which Waring Blendor Is Older?

WOW Jon Charles!  Just WOW!   They are both beauties but the Adolphus paired with your research suggests that the rocket type preceded the "waterfall" or what I call the Christmas tree style.  I suspect both types were manufactured simultaneously for a certain period of time during the '40s...

    Bowling alley machinery 1950s-60s...

Highand Park Bowl I'm always up for a visit to the Highland Park Bowl when I visit my sister, who lives not far from it.  I love a good contraption and the mechanics of the vintage equipment here doesn't disappoint.  There are some shots of it in action at various points in the video link.

    any fave DW salt?

What about the coarse, presumably much less refined salt used with ice cream freezers?  Is it viable for use in DW softener systems?

Maytag walks across floor during spin cycle

Give our resident Maytag expert Dan some time to respond.  He should be able to diagnose the problem and provide instructions on how to resolve the problem.  It's probably something that's gone out of proper adjustment.  Vintage Maytags should remain rock solid during spin.

When did Maytag start to go bad?

OK, so who really made the Maytag branded refrigerators?  My sister has a "Wide-By-Side" Maytag that has served her well.  She'll be replacing it soon, as she's remodeling her kitchen.  One of the guys working for her expressed interest in the fridge, advising that his wife would probably like...

    KDI-21 Imperial

The 4-way Hydrosweep wash arm lifts straight up and off for filter access -- there's nothing fastening it into place.  Just be mindful of where the tips of the wash arm are positioned when removing it.  They all need to clear the bulges near the bottom of the side walls to lift the arm off.

    KDI-21 Imperial

I think the indicator lamp at far right on the control panel indicates a true Hobart-made 21 series.  The model/serial number tag inside the door opening will confirm one way or the other.  If your machine was made by Hobart, check if they still carry the door seal.  First, you should try a...
