PINK Maytag Wringer in the L.A. area

The Blue Bell is a lot of fun! It had "special" features that allowed the salesperson to "sell-up" to Mrs. Customer. Both of the wringer rolls were soft; it didn't use the combination of soft/hard rolls, thus not squeezing enough water out of the clothing. There was no hook for hanging the...

PINK Maytag Wringer in the L.A. area

Boy ... I think they got the date mixed up. Maytag made these in the early 1960's and only made them for a couple of years. There were 8474 pink Maytag E2L's. I ran across an interesting article in the "Maytag Merchandiser" for dealers that said you could get the pink for no additional cost...

Starting 'May Is Maytag Month' with a bang!

I think these are great machines and who ever ends up with the one that RCD found, is going to be happy when they get it repaired!!

Starting 'May Is Maytag Month' with a bang!

The original bakelite agitator is quite powerful; the recirculation portion on the bottom "pumps" water that is in the agitator out. Sort of like a "burp", but only under the water! It can create a lot of suds; especially with vintage detergent.

Starting 'May Is Maytag Month' with a bang!

Dave ... I don't have one of the power fin (I should get one; forgot, I guess). But here's one of the original bakelite before it was even used.

Starting 'May Is Maytag Month' with a bang!

CONGRATULATIONS, RCD!! :-) Those really were fine machines. You DID start "May Is Maytag Month" off with a bang! My 1964 A700S has been running wonderfully for 3 years now; I absolutely love it. I use it most every weekend and wash my good office clothing in it; no problems here! I don't...

Polishing the wash tub of my Maytag E2LP wringer washer

    P. S. Don't forget to thoroughly rinse your tub with warm water and dry it well when you are done. You'll avoid water spots that way and you'll be surprised what wipes off on your towel!! I use terrycloth; that seems to be quite absorbent. :-)

So, while you might not be able to keep your machine looking like this:

Polishing the wash tub of my Maytag E2LP wringer washer

I'm a strong believer in plain old "Tide" in the Model E; it reacts well with SOFT water (don't know the grains of hardness ... sorry ... but I use an old Culligan system) and really likes to be wiped well before draining.

Polishing the wash tub of my Maytag E2LP wringer washer

The camera doesn't do the justice to these tubs. Also, the sun was setting last night when I took these shots. This is what pinky looks like under her agitator. Note the rust ... that's from the strainer, not the tub. Aluminum does not rust, but stains terribly. BUT ... I'm hoping with...

Polishing the wash tub of my Maytag E2LP wringer washer

Here's my 1982 Model E2LPS after having been using for 5-6 years now; still looks "almost" like new:

I've almost got the pink tub looking closer to new. It won't ever look like new again, but you can keep them stain free:

Here's another shot ... see ... it's not highly polished like the crown ...

Did you know that the tubs in the later Model E's were considered polished, but not as polished as the crown? Here's my brand new Model E2LPS I got a number of years ago; note the tub:

Polishing the wash tub of my Maytag E2LP wringer washer

I just s-l-o-w-l-y kept working on her tub by always making sure I didn't use any harsh chemicals (no bleach) and washing in SUPER warm or almost HOT water to make the aluminum more malleable and receptive to the "Oxy Clean" in:

I also felt that there was "hope". After doing a big initial wash, I was able to get this far ...
