Picture of the day and patent of the day

Wow the Picture of the Day works perfectly Alan, the Patent of the Day however the file is too small and corrupted or so it appears to me. Is there a way to show the entire file directly on that page without having to download it? Update never mind what I said about the Patent, it works just...

Picture of the day and patent of the day

I had about 900 washing machine patents in .pdf files located in the PAT_OF_THE_DAY directory. Every day at midnight central time a new patent file was picked randomly and shown for the day to download.

Site layout/navigating the ‘new’ AW site

I'm finding this link works somewhat similar to our old "Latest Posts" button and it is what I've been using... https://automaticwasher.org/whats-new/ Although for some odd reason that link only works on desktop browsers, it doesn't work on my phone which re-directs me to forums page.

    Vacuumland

Thank you Louis, what you said is exactly correct. Chet, I believe they are using XenForo Forum Software which takes a bit getting used to but I believe will work just fine in the long run once everyone gets used to it. The main thing to remember is this will ensure all of our nearly 1.25...

Hi Dave, I really have no idea about what they have in mind for upgrades or as they call it "Premium Members". As they are the operators/owners now they have the right to make any changes they wish.

Are you staying in Mpls or heading to sunny PS ? Hi Pete, no I've decided I like living in Minneapolis too much to make such a major move, especially to a place that doesn't have basements. What I've done for the past few years is to become a snow bird, Spring-Summer-Fall in Minneapolis and...

Thank you all so much for you're super kind comments. I still have mixed feelings about all this but I know deep in my heart I can't keep doing this forever and now that I'm retired from both my corporate day job and running the sites, I will be able to travel without having to schlep multiple...

ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS - Please Read This...

Hi everyone, so about a year and a half ago I had mentioned in thread postings on both aw and Vacuumland that I was thinking about retiring from running the websites. I first launched Automaticwasher in 2001 (originally as classicappliances.com, renamed to automaticwasher.org in 2004)...

    Rubber Washer Required...

Does it have to be exactly that size? Can you simply order a piece of sheet rubber and cut it nearly the same size? That's what I've done in most of these situations with either rubber or cork.

New Old Stock 358277 Water Valve

I have a bunch of those style valves and have not had any issues with them. I would test it first, the worse thing I've seen happen with those valve is a small drip into the wash tub when it is off, which you'll catch overnight.

    Hot Wash Cold Rinse Cycle?

For whites, sheets and cleaning rags = Hot Wash/Warm Rinse all year long. For colors it's Hot or Warm wash, sometimes I'll use medium switching from hot to warm when tub is 2/3 full of water. Rinse: October-April is Warm for everything, May-September is I'll use cold as long as the tap water...

1953 Hot point dishwasher Inlet Valve will not open

Another thing I should mention is timer does specifically call for 90 seconds of possible fill time. Of course the coil is suppose to cut-off the water flow if proper water level is reached before 90. I had this dishwasher in my kitchen for several years and you could tell where the perfect...

1953 Hot point dishwasher Inlet Valve will not open

Have you taken the measuring coil apart and make sure the contacts are clean and the springs aren't broken? It could be rusted closed or just dirty. Worse comes to worse you can convert the dishwasher into a time fill dishwasher. That would mean replacing the measuring coil with a special...

What’s the best detergent for a Vintage dishwasher?

I use Cascade Complete Powder that you can get at Target or Walmart. It works extremely well in my KDS-18 KitchenAid. It is extremely rare to ever have anything that doesn't come out clean. I use the Walmart advance dishwasher packs in my 1965 Lady Kenmore Roto-rack. They don't work quite as...
