    Polly Clean Laundry Centers

Oh, yeah. I had posted about Polly-Clean, Norge and Helpee-Selfee (appologies to my Asian friends)coin-op laundries a few months ago. In Amarillo, TX, we had a brand-new Polly-Clean near the house around 1961 or 2, and it was my favorite place. We could even see the neon arrow on the tall sign...

Another washer comes online after many years

Great Kenmore! Now, that's a washin' machine! The timer dial always reminded me of a speedometer, but then I've always thought car and washer dashboards of a given era were similarly designed. A job to be proud of! Kelly

    TV sitcom-family washer trivia question

The Thrill of it all...and more Oh, yeah, I remember Beverly Boyer's spot with the Whirlpools. Those models were very attractive. Remember the stainless Frigidiare kitchen appliances? Great movie, one of the few Doris Day romantic comedies that is well regarded by the critics. Carl Reiner...

    Cleaning and Letting Go

What's the next level below inept? Ten thumbs, I know what you mean. I could strip the threads changing a light bulb. Fortunately, others here share their restoration success stories and photos. I've learned SO much. Thanks, everyone! Kelly

    Cleaning and Letting Go

Good reason to let go Glenn, best wishes with your family plans. You'll make a significant difference for these kids. As for your current 'children' in the garage, someone should start a rollermatic collection! How many of those of wonderful old Frigi's do you have? Bob (Appnut), are you going...

    spinning RPM's

1-18 spin speed(s) I was thinking the last real Frigidaires had a higher than average spin speed, not quite 1140, but still pretty speedy. Mine has two spin speeds, normal and slow. I discovered only the regular cycle spins at normal (one can learn a lot by reading the inside of the lid!) and...

    Kenmore's Maiden Wash!!

Agitator cap Nice machine, Jamie! Would the fabric softener used on later models fit on top of that agitator? My mid-80's Kenmore (sraight-vane) had one and I think it's why the cap is so plain. Bocks the view, though! Those may not be hard to come by. Wish I still had mine, I'd get it to you.

The Washers We Love and More

As if all this isn't enough... I wish everything on 'the tube' was this good. Great choice of music, incredible short-clip riffs, best washer collection (dare I say?) in the world. It also answered a years-old question of mine - what kind of washer DID Lucy sell to Ethel? Now I know. One of my...

Got my first washer and dryer pair

You'll love 'em My '79 1-18 is also both my collection and user. At 27 years old, it's the best washer I've ever owned and, of course, at least one GM Frigidaire should be in any collection! I knew older, 40-60's washers were prized by collectors, but it wasn't until I found this site I...

    Frigidaire vs Kenmore 2006!

Sears called. You're hired. Great commercial. The dual action is an ingenious design, but for sheer poetry, I still like the old up 'n down. I must load my 1-18 "just right", since I've always witnessed pretty good roll in it. Clothes will hang for just a moment at the top, then as they...

    Texas Wash-In Day 2--Bellville

Mid-flop? I think you caught BOB in mid-flop! Better 'n TV, huh? Glad you guys had a good time. Austin, let me know when you have another gathering. I'm just up the road (okay, well up the road) in Dallas. Kelly

Everyone's dining room should look like this...

Seat of honor Chris, I can't think of a better place for a KitchenAid than the dining room. Peter, there should be a Christmast tree in the corner and bows on the machines!

    Missing Westy

Many thanks . . . for the replies. I'd still like to find out more about these and why they're so rarely seen today. Seems like they were all over the place in the 'old days', and I still think they were very innovative and beautiful machines. They're really what started my interest in...

    Frigidaire Crown Dryer

Almost . . . It ALMOST matches my '79 WIG washer - but too far away and, as it would be the usin' dryer, the Kenmore does to good a job to give up. Curious though, about the 'Crown' designation...my washer has no model identification on it (just Heavy-duty 1/18). Anyone know the model name...

    Missing Westy

what was I thinking? I was so happy to find out about the space-mates, I completely forgot what many people used where there was no room for a dryer...combos!!! Unless short on width, that was another alternative and probably a cheaper one. BTW - cool idea in the ad, both washer and dryer at...

    Missing Westy

Space-mates, huh? Yeah, that's it. I didn't know they went back so far. My first recollection couldn't have been any earlier than 1960, but if these were the only US made stack /undercounter models, they were probably around for several years. I think they were replaced about mid-sixties by the...

    Missing Westy

Well, almost... Ross, thanks for sending the pictures of your incredible Westys. Gary, the ad I remember with Pearl Baily was a much later machine. Still missing: the original stackables. I googled all over to find a photo to post, but no avail. I don't think I was making this up as an aunt had...

    Missing Westy

Since regularly visiting, I've seen FL Westinghouse washers from the earliest Laundromat style up to some of the last Blight-Westinghouse built with the exception of a line I remember from the early sixties. I believe they are the original flat-front stackables and were made for several years...

    Frigidaire Three Ring Washer

An Imperial, no less! I once heard these were available at some Frigidaire dealers. I remember seeing a Frigidaire range and refrigerator too, as a kid. Someone we knew had one of these little beauties - right in the laundry room across from the Real Thing! I'll bet toward the holidays, this...

    Favorite vintage agitator

The fun is in the mystery When you look inside and can't figure out how it works, then it's a cool agitator. As a kid, I did know how Frigidaires worked, but Philcos and Kelvinators? Until you see one in action... Thanks to this bunch, I've finally seen it and now I know! My all-time favorite...
