Why would one need to mechanically update a vintage refrigerator if it works safely and reliably? The GEs are well nigh bulletproof, and the Frigidaires (once they started using a rotary compressor) are fine machines too. Isn't part of the fun of vintage equipment that it has a "personality?"...
