Any of you have any experience with extended car warranties??

Just a side note, that Pasat ABS failure is an ongoing issue with many of them. It's actually a failure of the solder joints on the printed circuit board. There is a guy on ebay with an excellent reputation for repairing them. You send you ABS Module to home (a part you can easily...

Newest purchase- C.A. 1920 Ivory GE Brass blade fan!

Those are so nice looking!! Looks like they did a great job on the restoration. I've got a big GE pedastal fan, but would love a table-top model like these too.

Scored an ACME 6001 Supreme Juicerator

Agreed about eating the entire fruit I'm a big fan of all kinds of fruit, and eat a ton of it 24/7. So juicing will be more fun than really a nutritional thing. In fact, I was kind of disappointed when I saw all the pump and apple skin that was slung into the "spin basket" because I was...

Introducing the HOOVER robotic vacuum cleaner

These all suck....pun intended My inlaws gave my wife a Roomba a few years ago when they were still a big deal. I knew it was a piece of crap before it ever came out of the box. It did not disappoint. We "let" it do the wood floor in the kitchen and it would rumble around making noise for an...

So am I REALLY saving gas turning down the thermostat???

Nice weatherproofing there Jim! Man, that's a huge improvement from what you were spending, as well as with the comfort level of not feeling the heat actually being sucked out of your body in order to warm the other objects in the room. As you say, it'll be intersesting to see how this season...

Scored an ACME 6001 Supreme Juicerator

Lots-o-fruit required is right! Initially, I thought I'd used 2lbs of apples, plus 3 pairs....then I looked at the bag. It's was a 3 pounder! Normally I get really sick from store bought apple juice. I don't know if it's the sulphides, or pasturization, or what, but I get a major case of the...

Scored an ACME 6001 Supreme Juicerator

Pun intended? You might read up on that best juicers sight. I don't know anything about the Champions. Or any other juicer for that matter.

Scored an ACME 6001 Supreme Juicerator

Yes, when I jumped on ebay and Amazon to get a bit more info, I saw the filter paper available (but didn't understand where it went) and that there is a citrus juicer attachment for an additional $45-$60. Nice little video of it in use:[this post was last edited: 1/8/2011-20:28]

Scored an ACME 6001 Supreme Juicerator

Found this at a yard sale today for less than $20. (Appear to run about $200 online) It was filthy, but a quick bath of all the stainless in hot bleach water, and a wipe down with Windex, and it looks like new. Dropped 3lbs of organic apples into it and made about 3-1/2 glasses of juice. Each...

Thanks for the update, but no need to apologize. It takes thousands of hours to build a site this good, and I appreciate all of your efforts over the last decade.

So am I REALLY saving gas turning down the thermostat???

I don't play the thermostat game either It takes less energy to keep the house at a constant tempurature than it does to heat or cool all of this thermal mass until it's comfortable again. We work in order to have money and enjoy a nice home, so saving $10 or $50 or $100/mo to enjoy it...

Any of you have any experience with extended car warranties??

Kind of a betting game I would probably pass. You've obviously got a good Passat because most of that era had engine and transmission failures already. Also, while the car has a lot of value to you, it doesn't in the used car market. So throwing $1,900 at it...on the bet that it will...

    New car

Yep, keep those tires aired up to the max rated pressure stamped on the sidewalls, step on the go-fast pedal like it was an egg, keep it in overdrive, and it'll get really good mileage. Stay away from Jiffy Lube/Midas/Mieneke and other schlock shops and use GM/Delco air, fuel, and oil filters...

Vintage Air Conditioners. The Holy Grail of vintage appliances?

Just a smidge of propane is used in an automotive R12 replacement product called by the trade name of "Freeze 12." It's mostly just R134a though. I've used it before, and it cools/performs just fine....but I also get good results when converting an R12 system over to straight R134a. Hopefully...

Vintage Air Conditioners. The Holy Grail of vintage appliances?

Ralph we actually have a 10,000btu Kenmore that I mount in the living room window from about May or June, until October. The weather down here spins on a dime. This summer, we had a week in the triple digits....as high as 114 on one day, and then another couple weeks (spread out) in the high...
