which of these 3 DWs would be the best to use

Even though it only has a wash tower instead of a full wash arm, one of my best-performing dishwashers was a 90's Maytag, with the normal layout rack. Early ones suffered from an incontinent power module, which was usually replaced without charge back then. It had/has a very powerful air...

    Second Rack

Does anyone know if there is a new dishwasher brand that is available with a removable second rack? I need space for tall items like canning pots, canning pressure cookers, and tall, restaurant size, pasta pots.

    Samsung Dryer Spins Too Fast

Yeah, My LG Dryer does the same thing, unless it is fully loaded. It also requires quite a full load for the moisture sensor to work properly. I'm sure it is an engineering and design issue and not really repairable.

    Frigidaire washer and Roper range

Frigidaire Unimatics are still my favorite all-time washers. They only had a couple of minor deficiencies. The ones from the early 1950's tended to tangle clothes and often didn't do a good job with sandy clothes. Both of those issues would be remedied in subsequent models. Can anything match...

    The Brava Oven

About 15 years ago, my late husband and I bought two forced-air halogen countertop ovens on a BOGO offer from Sharper Image. These are the large glass bowl style, with the heat source in the lid. To this day, I still use them constantly. Both have never had a problem, or stopped working...

LGWM3900 Washer Rec. Settings & Water Level

I can't tell if you have a front- or top-loader LG. My top-loading LG also causes pills on synthetic and cotton knit shirts. I found that if I turn them inside-out before tossing them into the washer and dryer, the pilling is reduced significantly. They seem to get clean anyway.

Those detergent pods (both laundry and dishwasher)

I agree with Tom Turbomatic. I have soft water. The laundry and dishwasher pods have too much detergent for both. They exacerbated the etching of glass in my WP/KA dishwasher and are overkill for small laundry loads needed by us single people and widowers.

Consumer Reports spot on CBS Sunday Morning

"3) Their reviews have become lacking in detail compared to the 1970s and 80s." I couldn't agree more with this assessment. Back then, CR would elaborate more clearly, what a user's experience with a product would be. Now, they only go into that kind of detail for vehicles. Home appliances and...

    2006 Kenmore Elite Calypso

Good luck with your repairs on this great machine. I have always thought that WP should have stayed with this design and worked all of the bugs out.

    New Dishwasher Needs

The drain filter in my TOL KitchenAid needs constant cleaning. I do use a spatula to scrape my dishes and cookware off before loading. I was told by one of the service techs that the drain filter's biggest job is to keep broken glass or other damaging items out of the pump.

    New Dishwasher Needs

Does anyone know of a new dishwasher brand that has a soft food masticating disposer for the drain instead of, or in addition to, a manual clean drain filter? I don't care how noisy it may be.

Anyone know anything about post-FF GE washers?

My sister and her husband and my mom and dad bought sets with this washer. They never had any repairs, but the cycle modifier buttons wore through the plastic escutcheon very quickly. They were probably much cheaper to manufacture than the old filter-flo machines, but at least they weren't water...

Interesting old house with old TV, appliances, phones, etc

WOW! That is obviously Archie's house in Riverdale where he lives with his mother, Molly Ringwald. It's easy to see that Betty's bedroom window next door looks right into Archie's. 😁

I can't believe I've never thought to do this.

I always remove the toilet seats while cleaning my toilets. I have an old Kenmore Elite, with an easily removable upper rack, hooked up in my garage that I use for utility cleaning. I wash the seats in there. It's also great for cleaning my cat's litter boxes. Good thing I don't use it for...

    Discontinued detergents/products that you remember

I still have an ancient bottle of Mrs. Stewart's Blueing. It only takes a few drops in the final rinse, and I have used it from time to time.

I think I F’ed my frying pan after putting it through the dishwasher

I never put any cookware that has a non-stick coating, in my dishwasher. Also, in my experience, the rainbow pattern on other items, is a sign that I've used too much detergent. I wipe them out or if need be, wash them in warm soapy water. Over the years, I found that doing this makes the...

Whirlpool 8770 DW Returned to Service

Jealous, I am! These were great dishwashers due to their design and reliability. The mechanical timer in these rocks as it is less susceptible to failure like the newer solid-state control boards. With this kind of timer, it is easy to use the machine as a plate warmer as well. The washing...

They just don’t build things well anymore

Tis a puzzlement! Today's appliances look like they are built like tanks. Sadly, their longevity and/or reliability doesn't show that to be true, though most perform very well. I am reminded of the TOL Electrolux front loader that my late husband and I owned. It appeared to be very sturdy, and...

    The stupidest customer reviews

This is a true story, from way back in the early 1950's, that most of the older folks in my small town swore was true. "A widow purchased a New Chevrolet equipped with PowerGlide automatic transmission. She used some of the money left by her late husband, who usually drove, as she couldn't drive...
