    Thanksgiving

Of course I'm going to have a delicious dinner because my sister is cooking. As a widower, my idea of a Thanksgiving dinner for just me would start with "Remove film over the brownie." Thanks for the good wishes.

Front loader or top loader machines?

And most of what folks will buy comes down to personal preference.

    The Home Entertainment Industry

The universe, with its energy waves, is analog. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

    WHAT would YOU do?

Due to essential tremor, AKA familial tremor, my hobby of restoring old tube and solid state vintage audio equipment, takes twice as long as it did 5 years ago. Others often mistake it for Parkinsonian Syndrome, which is much worse and can be debilitating. Best of luck with your challenges, mattl.

Front loader or top loader machines?

I currently have an LG 4500 front loader, and so far, it works almost flawlessly. However, I'd go back to a top loading machine if it was designed exactly like my top-loading 1-18 Frigidaire. That was the best washing machine I've ever owned.

    Replacing a Neptune

I have had an LG WM4000 and matching dryer for about a year now. The washer was worth the learning curve and not so spaceship-like after it and I got acquainted. The dryer works well, but the automatic dry cycles are worthless if you often have small loads.

Dryer doors that open top-down vs. side swing

I used to own a F&P Top-Loading dryer. It performed perfectly and it was a breeze to transfer laundry from my F&P Aqua Smart washer, directly into the dryer. I will admit, however, that the mechanism added a lot of complexity to the machine, sometimes resulting in a service call. It dried...

    Console stereos: 1958-84

Damn! You do good work! That component is beyond beautiful. Mine is in the console, but the problem is that I know it is in there, not being as pristine as it could. Thanks for all your help and info. I once had the skill to create something like this, but that was way back during Disco.

    Console stereos: 1958-84

I assure you I am not an amateur, but my background is in mobile communications, so I do assume you are correct. But, I love fiddling around with stuff just to see what would happen. Now if I could only find a blank chassis or a place near me that does sandblasting, I would remove all the parts...

    Console stereos: 1958-84

After I replaced the capacitors and installed a polarized plug, I had no hum at all. The wiring in my 9301s did not take the center tap of the balance pot to ground, for some reason. Anyway, I have zero hum and I even used a scope to verify.

    Console stereos: 1958-84

Yes, it is a 9301 combination tube amp and system power supply. I did remote the balance control, removed the hum balance potentiometer, replaced the power cord with a polarized one with the hot side going to the switched side of the transformer. I was fortunate enough as a young adult to listen...

    Console stereos: 1958-84

Like you, I aimed to get a 1962 Magnavox console, that spent the last 20 years in a barn, to sound as good as possible. I rebuilt the amp and the tuner/preamp. Of course I replaced all of the electrolytic caps. Besides the components, the side-firing 15 inch woofers and front-firing angled horns...

    Console stereos: 1958-84

I remember seeing the GE Scandia at our local GE appliance store back in the 60's. I thought it was awesome-looking, but lacked the crisp percussion response that our family friend's HH Scott system had.

    Console stereos: 1958-84

I am the farthest thing a person could be, from being a prude. But, I have to agree about the language in songs. To me, it shows a lack of creativity, and is insulting.

    Console stereos: 1958-84

Most record changers in American console stereos were made by Voice of Music or BSR of England. Magnavox had their unique changers made by Collaro also of England. Their tonearm would tap the edge to the record to determine its size.

what would be your choice of vintage dishwasher to install in a modern kitchen if you do not went something modern or with manual filter to clean

We had a top-loading Westinghouse that pulled out like a drawer and had a "paddle" impeller like you mentioned. It had no food particle filter, yet it performed much better than it should have, given its design.

I finally tried Great Value (Walmart) Dishwasher pods (wow!)

I have had the same good results with the Costco pods. There must have been a recent formula change in the last couple of years. Their performance used to be quite mediocre.

    General Electric Range 1950s - 1960s Identification?

Around 1954, mom and dad bought the coolest 40" General Electric range. It had two large burners and two small ones, also a large and small oven. She didn't want or need a deep-well stewing pot. The backsplash was designed very well with the clock in the center with two large chrome oven temp...
