Let's talk jeans. Love them or hate them?

Being a past member of the International Gay Rodeo Association, my choice of jeans back then was of course, Wranglers. As a teen and young adult, Levi's were fashionable until designer jeans came out with the nice scooped Disco era butts. Once I got past middle age, I had to face the fact that I...

    Console stereos: 1958-84

Those old Magnavox consoles may not have been the delight of audiophiles, still they were very mellow sounding and perfect for the living rooms of the WWII, "Smoke 'em if you got 'em," generation.

    Maytag A06 aquisition for rebuild

I had a DE806 and a DG806 back in the day. The were incredibly reliable and lasted about 20 years for my ex-wife. I do remember that the washer had a difficult time rolling over stiff items like jeans or large items like sheets and blankets, especially during the rinse cycle.

Dishwashers losing popularity in US Homes???

I'm a big fan of dishwashers. I load mine up during the day and run it at night. I would choose to do my laundry in a wringer washer before I'd give up my dishwasher.

    Under-the-tub lint filters

Does anyone know if the WP/KM lint filters that resided in the outer tub, just below the bottom of the inner tub, were very effective or were they there for a placebo effect and marketing? Of course they would have been self-cleaning just by default. I had a 1976 TOL washer.

Maytag Machines After Whirlpool Buyout - What Remained?

The only problem with the belt drives, was their anemic spin. Other than that, they performed very well, even before the genius of the dual action agitator.

The new EU dryer energy label is rolling out

Electrical rates are among the lowest in the nation, here in the prestige-free state of Idaho. Our power here is generated via hydroelectric facilities and no fossil fuel generating plants.

    Consumer Reports

Eddie, I have to agree with your take on Consumer Reports. Somewhere in the mid 1980's, they started to lose their objectivity. Their tests used to relay what it would be like to own the machines. Their reports had both objective and, sometimes more importantly, subjective things to say. (One...

When did Maytag start to go bad?

LOL I knew that! I still think the pitman transmission did a better job.

When did Maytag start to go bad?

I think when Maytag switched to the orbital mechanism from the helical, long stroke system is when I first observed them not performing as well. Good rollover of items like jeans and sheets was always a Maytag deficiency and the orbital action only made it worse. When they later added a dual...

    Whirlpool Top Load Dishwasher

Back in 1970, my wife and I purchased this very dishwasher, only in avocado green. I kept it after we divorced and used it for years before my partner and I gave it to great friends. It worked flawlessly and I loved the top load design.

    Amazing GE Announcement

From my local newspaper: LOUISVILLE, Ky. — GE Appliances plans to shift production of refrigerators, gas ranges and water heaters out of China and Mexico as part of a more than $3 billion investment to expand its U.S. operations in Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and South Carolina. The...

    Console stereos: 1958-84

Thanks Thanks supersuds! I stand corrected! I have three MicroMatic changers that I purchased on ebay. All sellers said they were functional, but none of them could possibly have been operating condition. One is an R600, one is the newer version with the slimmed-down tonearm, and the third is...

    Console stereos: 1958-84

I always loved the way they measured the record size with the tonearm. (Watching it doing that, was sometimes more entertaining that some records.) A feature that wouldn't be necessary these days, as the speed selections needed are now down to two, and the record size could be determined just by...

This laundry set is screaming for restoration. What a great find for someone who has the skills for that.

    Console stereos: 1958-84

According to what I have read, Magnavox had their own manufacturing divisions for their console and television cabinets. It went away after the company was acquired by Phillips.

    Console stereos: 1958-84

1 1/2 years ago, I found a 1962 tube-type "Magnificent Magnavox" console on Craig's List. Since it was available locally and was in working condition, I bought it for 200 bucks and brought it home. Since I have an electrical engineering background I knew there were things that needed immediate...

    Most Unique Washer Control Panel

When Kenmore's started sporting a similar control panel, (along with many other manufacturers like GE) it did indeed look incredibly cheap, something for which the Kenmore-branded Whirlpools were not known.

d-todd, most folks aren't familiar with the tool or the inverted hex nuts on which it is used.
