    Are you equipped for Porta-Fi?

It was not something I saw in a lot of homes at the time, at least not in our circles. At that time, the first components and separate speakers on "shelving" seemed to be happening. What WAS still big was television consoles. I clearly remember Magnavox STORES in the suburban malls. What's...

    Election Madness

Oh, and, in my negative impressions of certain, very hardcore Obama extremists, in no way did I mean to convey that all Obama supporters, or even most of them, are like the extremists are. I speak of these new extremists in such harsh terms because, indeed, I wonder if they are more of a threat...

    Election Madness

One more question. Who do you think is portrayed more unfairly in the mainstream media? Obama, Hillary, or McCain? Has the media's way of covering this primary cycle affected your choices for how you GET news and opinion regarding the candidates? Are media pundits and political commentators...

    Election Madness

I'm glad to see this being discussed here. A lot of what I've been reading here fascinates me. What's amazing, a year later, and with me not really ranting about politics the way I once did, I'm taken with how different it seems now, just KNOWING there's a good chance Bush will leave office...

It STILL Goes Up On Its Own.

Toggle, my apologies to anyone who may have mentioned this already, and I'm not real hip to these devices, but it is possible it's a fail-safe of some sort, so, in the event of a blackout, you could ESCAPE your garage? If there's an emergency switch or something, forget I even brought it up. I...

    Are you equipped for Porta-Fi?

wow, the memories We had a very similar system when I was young. Ours was purchased, along with a few other furnishings, in 1971, when I was six, at a furniture chain called "Sachs New York", near the new Kings Plaza shopping mall in Brooklyn. I was so aware of how my parents were so proud...

The Love of Clothes Washers and Homosexuality

"Sadly, our society is not keen on boys being curious about domestic appliances." I don't know, Keven. I'm seeing this change a bit, at least around my neck of the woods. I think the newer styles in washing machines are, in a way, making it more acceptable to be "into" washers and laundry...

    Mid century vinyl wainscote

Oh, one more thing...:) The best thing I ever did was to cover my aging walls in every painted room EXCEPT the bathroom with paintable wallpaper. I love semigloss and higher-gloss finishes on painted walls because it is so much more durable and washable, and that means I have to paint less...

    Mid century vinyl wainscote

No, thanks, I have quite enough of the "alabaster" version of what is pictured above, gracing the walls of my own bathroom! :) In truth, it's not that bad, once you get used to it, and it is very easy to maintain, and keep clean. I'd actually replace it, but I really would like something a bit...

    Sun Detergent

Sun is, AFAIK, Huish's "budget brand" (they have tiers). If you have a Walgreen's nearby.... The next higher level is Walgreen's liquid in the blue bottle (marked "Compare to All". It works just like All liquid does (no enzymes). But the Walgreen's orange bottle HAS enzymes and works even...

    Can anyone explain this?

Hi, Jon. Yes, I've had difficulties with Mr. Wirth in the past. Fortunately, it did stop of its own accord. There IS an extenuating circumstance that, if you were to be harassed further and wanted to take steps to stop it, MIGHT cause you to just sort of leave the whole situation alone, but...

I have really, really had it with television!

Whirlcool, you may want to try what I did. I have a chemical imbalance which requires me to avoid anything of a deceptive, fearmongering, sensationalist nature. Two days after the 9/11 occurrences, I installed my television on a wheeled cart of the variety once commonly found in hotel rooms...

    Kroger and Liquid laundry detergent

I don't know about Kroger, but I was in our local Shop and Shop today and 15-load boxes of plain Tide and Ivory Snow were on sale for $5.89. They are ALL expensive these days, but I think what did powders in was that liquids became cheaper and more heavily promoted. Consumers take those "number...

    Hiring Domestic Help . . .

"She also refuses to mop, and unexpectedly falls to her knees and wants mom to join her in long, incoherent prayers." Maybe it was a novena to "Our Lady Of Lysol"? I'm sorry, it's been a long week...:) To make amends, here's a quick and easy homemade floor cleaner recipe..... 1 part water 1...

This time, it's not a republican, WAY TO GO DEMOCRATS!

My main beef with McGreevey, no pun intended, was that he was about to be busted for corrupt political/business dealings. When he realized the authorities were about to swoop in, he chose THAT moment to become a high-profile "gay American" and resign, which pretty much ensured that he would...

    UNSCENTED detergents for DISHWASHERS?

There USED to be "Dishwasher All", an unscented powder that worked well and was really quite affordable, but Unilever axed it. I would give the Seventh Generation a whirl. I know someone who uses it and loves it.
