A glimpse at rare early Frigidaire promo...

Snow day for me as well, so I made a pdf of an unusual Frigidaire dealer showroom album, circa 1929. It's quite lengthy, but thought some of you would find a few excerpts amusing. Enjoy!!

    1929 Frigidaire

Maybe you've seen this... Perhaps some of you have seen this, but a very interesting photo of a Frigidaire display from 1926 (looks like it's sitting in storage after the event, but obviosuly the heavily frosted "Frigidaire" coil and evaperator units indicate that they were running at the time...

Spin-it: Out of curiousity, do you recall what the belt drive units sounded like? Were they noisy? I did some work to mine over the holidays - I think the evap was oil logged and perhaps starving the compressor of oil. This was likely caused by a stuck float valve that was admitting the...

    1929 Frigidaire

Hey Chris...that '34 model is beautiful! What's the refrigerant? Is it R-114 or R-12? Latest development that has me somewhat puzzled: I let the unit sit for about a week and turned it on again - it still exhibited the knocking / hammering sound, so I shut it down. On a whim, a day or two...

    Frigidaire

Probably not likey...my understanding is that GM dumpted literally everything associated with Frigidaire when they sold to WCI. Thankfully, quite a bit of literature was saved, though...now in the Frigidaire Archives at Kettering University. http://www.kettering.edu/archives/frigidaire.jsp

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of another refrigerant that will operate at such low pressure differentials. It may be possible, but I'd have to convert the cold control to a thermostatic system - it works now off of pressure - there is a barometric bellows in the low side suction line that kicks...

I wonder if the clutch lining was something more rubust or at least thicker than the standard clutch, or if they just expected that the clutch would require replacement at more frequent intervals due to the slippage?

I'm not all all surprised. The term "conservative" is very relative when you look at the General Motors of the late 1960's compared to the General Motors of recent years. Think of the avaialble options, color combinations, trim packages, etc. that one could order on any 1968 GM...

    1929 Frigidaire

That's correct - two aluminum ice trays slide into the evap coil, that's the extent of what you can freeze!! I guess one has to remember this was before the days where frozen foods were commonplace. You went to the store every few days, bought fresh, and ate it before it spoiled.

    Frigidaire

That's awesome...a bit over the top!! I wonder how the control circuit worked. Did the rheostats on the control panel directly vary the voltage to the motor, or was there a control module of sorts in between? Sounds like something you would never find parts for anymore.

Did they really make this laudry pair? I have the stove (RXE-39P) in my kitchen, but have never seen the "High Fashion" laundry pair outside of this ad...

    1929 Frigidaire

Thanks to all for the kind replies - I fell in love with it for all these same reasons. The condition is almost museum quality. I'm really hoping I can keep it running. That's a bit more challenging because yes, unlike a Monitor Top, it uses an "open" type belt driven compressor. Lots more...

    1929 Frigidaire

And inside...notice the maple trim!! Story goes as such: Unit delivered new to a railroad depot in Iona, MN. Spent most of it's life there (and obviously very well cared for). When the depot closed, an employee there purchased it and it was used as a spare basement fridge until 1994, when it...

Model is AHDP-4840, Compressor Model is "EF". Yes, well aware of the nasty nature of SO2. Plan to bleed the air of very carefully into a bucket of lye water, wearing an acid vapor cartridge respirator and all of the other necessary safety precautions. Definitely nothing to be taken lightly.
