Evolution of Hotpoint through UK Catalogues

some catalogue favourites again Rob we has the super electronic 18340 from picture 8, bought in november 1979 at the co-op department store for £179, so would have been one of the first with the brown button range. Lasted 13 years, and was still working, but had our grandparent newer 9530 when...

Fantastic thread Mike An excellent record of a friendship filled weekend, just reading through, and of course knowing most of you, I really felt I was there with you, without the travel lol. That answers a question I've been trying to answer, the split spin shaft seal and rubber seal I've got...

UK Hotpoint 1501 Top Loader Washing Machine

Wonderful thread Ricky great work you and Steve have achieved, I think spotting the machine was the easiest part of the story of this lovely machine, it is just perfect that it found its place in your kitchen. I think the hardest job on my part was getting Rob to go into a bookshop, so I...

Frigidaire SDJ Automatic Spin Dryer made 1969

Hi Anthony don't mind going off topic, especially when you mention old electric mowers, started my interest in home appliances with replacing the belts on the old blue qualcast concordes, then whilst others had paper rounds I used to have a round mowing lawns for the neighbours. Mum always said...

Frigidaire SDJ Automatic Spin Dryer made 1969

Fabulous Film Mike and a great spin dryer, what great condition. As you say, these simple, but well built machines made the world of difference to wash day, and though mum of course has a washing machine, she always said, so long as she had a spinner she could manage. Thinking back to the days...

Sorry I'm late too this thread There is another, along with Kris, we have one of these bendix machines, not sure of the model number, but it has the red progress indicator and a 500rpm spin. I doesn't have a locking door interlock, just a micro switch, plus a label keep hands out until...

70th Anniversary of Hoover UK Washing Machines, 12th October 1948

Wonderful thread, thank you Mike. so much to say, but I think as a work friend put it when I showed the photo's, "You all look so happy" Well we were. And with this exceptional record, anytime we can relive the celebration and bring a extra smile to a normal day. Also I think it's the proof...

    Galamatic Twin Tub

looks to me you're right Keith looking at the advert on the full screen, it looks to me that a chromed tube extends from and swivels with the black raised part in the centre of the bezel and over the suds return hole. I guess it's chromed as it is reflecting the artwork behind the machine...

First Post and Hoover impeller question.

welcome to the group Caprifool I agrees that washing machine looks in great condition and I've not seen one with a timer fitted either, though it makes sense that hoover could have fitted them, as it's the same combined switch and timer fitted to a hoover twin tub I bought back in the spring...

    Old Parts, Really...

Ah well remembered Austin Hi Keith It's my "Low Stock Anxiety", it's partly me having a pop at myself and partly the thought, I'm sure many of us have, that we may not have a particular spare part when we need one, it's especially acute when we realise we'd had the chance to buy several at a...

    Old Parts, Really...

I must do a stock take of my parts lol, maybe I'll retire on the proceeds. The other scenario I had some years ago in a repair shop where I was asking about spares and old machines, I spotted a hoovermatic pump on the shelf and asked how much, he said £10, so said I'd have it, to which he...

    New old Hotpoint dryer uk

A great buy Rob Mum has had that dryer since new, and whilst not in great regular use is still working well, I can't even think if I've put a new belt on it. I have to acknowledge the design and performance of washers has developed since the days this dryer was manufactured, the build quality...

The Invisible Man uses a vintage dishwasher!

could it be for an under counter water heater, I know the dishmaster could come with a heater tank, but maybe the complete unit would have a separate heater to provide hot water for the sink and the dishwasher, rather than having the dishwasher with a heater and rely on the house supply for...
