Here is what looks like a nice stove in Atlanta

Ah ha. Learned something again! Thanks for explaining the "evenizer" cover. I have that in the 54 GE and while it is not in the best shape, has some rust holes, it is mostly there, I was not sure why, now I know. I just put it back together tonight and tried it by making a frozen pizza, and it...

Need advice for my 54 GE range

Thanks Kevin, I tried into the night last night, and again this morning, so far no progress on the switches. I can't see down into them enough to see how they are supposed to work, but other projects have priority, so it will have to wait. I will try to find some of that wire, as one of the...

Need advice for my 54 GE range

One of the first really grungy pictures, lots of years of dirt and grease. The oven cleaned up great except the plate over the lower element. I miss it already, it has become the only oven I bake in.

Need advice for my 54 GE range

Well, here are a couple of it working before I tried to improve it.. BTW, I just pulled one of the button sets out, interesting, the back wires are just stripped where they run thru the contact area, the other side had wire loops. I had to slightly break the cover to open it as it had brass...

Need advice for my 54 GE range

I think you are right.. Nothing else is working, and they worked fine before. I did not know they came apart. I hope the old wires will not be too bad to work with, but guess if they break, it was time to replace them. Thanks!

Need advice for my 54 GE range

I took it apart today to install new indicator bulbs, and clean up the 50+ years of grease. I used some electrical equipment grease remover on and around the right side control buttons, and now they will hardly move. I used ez off bam grease remover on the left buttons after the failure on the...

    Never would have thought

Which brings me back to my question Why were there so many of these smooth top ranges in the junk pile already? That would be my concern.. as I cook dinner on a 1954 calrod equiped stove.. :-) I have to add that this old stove bakes great, nice even results.. even better than the self cleaning...

    Never would have thought

I have not ever cooked on a smooth top, strictly old school here.. just as well, since I have three of the calrod style stoves. I am going to look a bit more tomorrow night, this time with a flashlight to see what else is there just for fun.

    Never would have thought

Sears in Calvert It is the only appliance dealer in the whole county, and usually they keep everything in locked trailers, but I noticed last night as I drove back from the gym that something was back there.. must have been 30 or so items that are just sitting out in the weather, all to be...

    Never would have thought

a year or so ago that I would go out in 40+mph winds and rain, to pick thru a pile of stoves, washers, dryers etc piled behind Sears, but there I was last night... LOL Lots of newer stuff, smooth top ranges, white faced Kenmores, etc. Did score one filter flo lint strainer from a smashed BOL...

Ever see one of these Radaranges?

Great find I have never seen that model, I like it more than my all digital touch screen model, even though they have the same features. Love the lighted displays. I just need the probe for mine, it was missing when I saved the machine from friends who moved into a house and were afraid of...
