Frigidaire 1-18 Filter My mom had that very same washer in the early '70s, same color and everything. What a wonderful machine! But I have vivid memories of her trying to clean out that awful filter after each wash. What a nightmare it was! The "teeth" would hang onto the lint for dear life!!

    dryer sprinklers

Sprinkler Bottles I can remember in the mid 1960s, my grandma in Roswell, NM, used to "take in ironing" for extra money. She had one of those sprikler caps that she'd attach to an empty coke bottle. Sprinkle, iron, sprinkle, iron, etc. And I remember when we got our new Frigidaire harvest gold...

    Compact?

My parents bought a Compact when I was small, back in the late '60s. It was turquoise and shaped like an egg. It came with all the attachments, which included an floor polisher. They still have that vacuum and use it to clean out the cars. I hope to inherit it, some day.

Question: "How do you get a nun pregnant?" Answer: "Dress her up as an altar boy."

    POD! Fabulous!

Yes, I would've LOVED to have had her as a guest at a 1960s themed drag party, a number of years ago! And love the earrings!!! She kind of looks like "Barbara Ryan" on "As the World Turns."

    Remember this Free Give-Away?

When I was a kid in the '60s and '70s, my mom would sometimes buy a bottle of dishwashing liquid (don't remember the brand) that gave away a free brooch. The brooch would be on the outside of the bottle, held on by a big piece of cellophane. My mom used to ask my sister and me, "OK, which one do...

    It's National Cliche Day......

My dad says this one, when somebody is taking forever to turn at an intersection...... "Well, he's making a career out of turning!" And a friend of mine was telling me about her grandma, who used to say the following, when things were tense in the room..... "It's like a hot bed of Baptists in...

Green Stamps/Gold Bond Stamps buys a Maytag washer?

My mom bought groceries at Furr's Supermarket on Wednesdays because it was double stamp day.....Gold Bond. Then when we'd visit Dad's parents in Roswell, NM, we'd buy gas at a station that gave out S&H Green Stamps. Mom would reserve most of her stamps for buying bridal shower gifts for people...

    Nice Frigidaire 1-18 and 50's Kenmore Dryer--Craigslist!

Dick, I'm glad that you rescued them. When there's something I covet that I cannot have, it's a relief when it finds a good place to be. Have fun with that Frigidaire!!!

    Nice Frigidaire 1-18 and 50's Kenmore Dryer--Craigslist!

I want that washing machine!! We had that same machine, purchased in 1972 in harvest gold. I could make the drive from Bakersfield, but my partner would kick me out of the house (ha!) He isn't an admirer of old appliances. (sigh)

    Marlo Thomas & "That Girl"

I LOVED That Girl!! She was such a dresser, and her hair was wonderful. I had an aunt who graduated high school in 1969. She was head cheerleader, she was "Miss Muleshoe" first-runner-up and Miss Congeniality (Muleshoe was a nearby town) and she had that flip hairdo, minus the cool bangs. Very...

    everyone's favourite cartoons, if any

Hmmm....Favorite cartoons....I saw some of my old favs on the Cartoon Network, recently, and they just didn't seem as wonderful as I remembered. Guess new technology, graphics, etc., have messed things up for me. Nevertheless, my favorites were... *Top Cat *Huckleberry Hound *Augie Doggie &...

10/11/05 is National Coming Out Day....

My parents are a mess. While growing up, I was in my sister's room all the time, playing Barbies with her. Didn't like sports. Crazy about washing machines. Always called a "sissy" at school (among other things!) Only a boulder wouldn't have suspected I was gay!! When I came out to them at 28...

    Missing True Deparment Stores

I was hired by JCPenney in 1981 and worked there for 2 years. I had to wear a shirt and tie every day. We were trained to basically pester the customers to death. I remember asking a customer, for example, if she needed help with anything, and she would make it clear that she "was just looking,"...

    Getting tortured in school.

WestTexMan, I was born in Morton and we lived near Stegall and moved near Baileyboro before moving to Odessa, where I grew up and attended Odessa High. My grandparents lived near Baileyboro for years and years (Mom attended ThreeWay Schools) and we'd visit them on the farm, often. Guys and...

    Halloween

My favorite Halloween memory is of around ten years ago. A bunch of friends and I stayed in the Anatole Hotel (posh) in Dallas and dressed up in glamor drag, and proceded to go out to the gay area of town. We were a bit shy about going through the lobby on our way out on the town, but little did...
