    Katrina and the Waves

This is just horrible.....just horrible! I can't keep from watching everything that's happening on TV. Out here in Bakersfield where things are dry as a bone, it's hard to believe. I absolutely love New Orleans, and this saddens me so much. My heart goes out to everyone. Please be safe! David

    POD, 9/1

I think that Mother is more partial to the daughter in the dress. Notice that they both have the same expressions. Sister in the jeans looks like she'd love to push Sister w/the dress into the lake, but she dutifully smiles for the camera. Also, she hates having to wear the Frigidaire crown, but...

    POD - 08/31

I remember there being TV commercials just like that ad. Of course they didn't show the hose filling the glass, but jumped forward to show the water in the glass. Never thought of that being a problem, back then! (hee-hee!) David

To all the adult members out there...

Jon, I admire your taking a stand. As a 42 yr. old, I'm impressed by the wisdom coming from an 18 year old. I wish I'd had a handle on things like that when I was your age. Thank you for contributing! David

Does This Bring back Summer Memories or What?

Home made ice cream is the best!! I am one of two kids, and when I was growing up, my mom would ask the birthday person (my dad, sister or me) what kind of cake they wanted and what flavor of ice-cream. Then the cake would be made, and the requested ice-cream would be made with the hand cranked...

    Kenmore Dryer Manual

I just spotted an owners' manual on eBay for a Kenmore Dryer. The seller doesn't know what year, specifically. The pictures look 1960's, though. David http://cgi.ebay.com/Sear-and-Roebuck-Kenmore-Dryer-Manual_W0QQitemZ7157945637QQcategoryZ13596QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

More about Hoes.... DADoES, you are absolutely right! And Tex, I taught elementary school for 12 years, and it amazed me that the kids were really unfamiliar with that particular gardening or farming tool. They knew rakes and shovels, but not hoes. And, of course, anytime I would use the word...

Colors in appliances from 1953 to 1990

Fascinating, Patrick! A friend and I were just wondering, recently, what colors were available, esp. in the 50's. I can report, from personal experience, a different color name for Frigidaire. My parents bought a washer in 1980 or 1981, and the color was called "wheat." I was disappointed when...

Mixed up Wives' Tales OK, Bob, Tex, and anyone else who's reading this, it seems I got my "wives' tales" mixed up. True, my grandmother fussed at my mom for hanging clothes on the line while she was pregnant w/me, as one is not supposed to raise one's arms above one's head....BUT, I remembered...

Fellow Texans Hey, Bob! You're from Lubbock? So you, too have sand in your veins! (ha) I was born in Morton and we lived on a farm near Stegall. Wasn't long before we moved to another place near Baileyboro (love these names!) and my grandparents' farm was also near Baileyboro. We went to church...
