What music do you do your cooking to?

TV with the volume turned up a little   History Channel, Science Channel, Modern Marvels streaming channel, The Red Green Show streaming channel.   I think they call it "teleradio" when you're listening while doing something else.   Wish they had a MythBusters and Outrageous Acts of...

    Circulon ScratchDefense dirt cheap

Sorry I didn't post this sooner.  Circulon is blowing out their TV chef sets for a steal compared to what I paid.   Induction-ready, dishwasher safe and metal utensil tolerant (though I still use nylon, wood and bamboo).   The ScratchDefense sets are the first two items on the page.  The...

Which Canadian grocery chain locks up its carts like ALDI?

The line about a shopping cart costing "just a quarter"  got a pretty good laugh from the studio audience, so it's obviously more universal than ALDI in the USA which is in only 38 states.  Thanks for the info.

Which Canadian grocery chain locks up its carts like ALDI?

So, I'm watching The Red Green Show and Steve Smith who plays Red Green is making another of his improbable creations requiring a shopping cart as one of its parts and blurts out "You'll find them in front of (I wasn't paying full attention and missed the name).  They're only a quarter."  ...

    Bought a pressure cooker

Split peas and lentils . . .   . . . turn into a velvety legume delight in 10 minutes under pressure followed by a natural pressure drop.  Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil per pound for flavor, as much as for foam prevention, and you get a surprising buttery finish without butter.

Conventional electric ranges: the phase-out begins?

Frigidaire's USA website has a link to the Electrolux USA site and vice-versa.  Electrolux no longer offers conventional electric ranges to US customers.  Just induction, gas and dual fuel in that order:   https://www.electrolux.com/en/ranges   It's just one slightly upscale brand for...

Great detergent site Phosphates with Enzmes

And then there's . . .   . . . any brand of "advanced" dishwasher pacs, store brand or national brand, and a heaping teaspoon of sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP).  5-pound bag lasts at least a year.  MUCH cheaper then Bubble Bandit who jacked up the price when they were nearly alone in the...

The greatest thing since sliced bread?

Well, if it's bread-related, I nominate the switch from cellophane to the plastic bag with its wire tie or small plastic closure device.      When you open cellophane, it starts to tear along the initial cut.  Since you can't close it back up, you had to put the rest of the loaf in an...

A half-pound of pasta (and why you should weigh it instead of eyeballing it)

I was trying to illustrate how different shapes take up different volume and can throw you off, making one meal a feast and the next a famine if you try to guess at a half-pound, but the picture didn't cooperate.  8 ounces of elbow mac, rigatoni and spaghetti.  Compare the elbows to the...

    Yeah, I bought something from a mini-infomercial

You know, a two- or three-minute ad that fills a whole cable/satellite commercial break.  Can't remember if it was during American Pickers or Pawn Stars on The History Channel   But hey, it's good stuff.  I bought the set on the bottom right.  And no, it's not an affiliate link.  I'm not...

Are open-case coolers (& some freezers) at or nearing extinction?

At the local ALDI, . . .   . . . the chilled produce display is open-front.  Dairy, deli and freezer cases have doors.  Upright doors have spring-loaded closers.  Chest freezers have sliding doors that slowly slide shut on their own if a customer leaves one open.
