    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Thirty-two

Yes Matt, so was I. Thankfully I was a free range kid that only had to go home for meals and experienced alot before high school. There I had the most fun and when I was a Senior, we could legally drink, vote and even get a car loan. I miss those fun days as being an old fart now sucks.

    Modern Living: Part Eighteen

I have that same Melmac that I use everyday. You CANT use it in a Microwave as it gets hot, not food inside. Seems to be dishwasher safe and even after these years they still look fine. And NO , it will break when it is old like mine

    Maytag LA710

I have the 511, just like the 510 above but it has a bleach dispenser. Has run like a champ for over 40 years with one $28 part. Too bad so many Maytags of this vintage are still going strong and the newer models are already in the scrap heap.

    12v Automobile Battery

My old "95 Silverado's factory battery lasted 9 years and my "13 Silverado factory battery also lasted 9 years. But my old "81 Corvette would chew up a battery every year unless it was disconnected when sitting for any length of time.

P.O.D. 11/16/2025 Sears Ad: Washer & Choice of Dryer

But if you insisted (Demanded) that you wanted that model at Sears, they would try everything to up sell you and if its was this model you wanted, sorry ,now out of stock, maybe a few weeks before you could get it. The salesperson lost his tiny commission on the low end sales but if he sold a...

P.O.D. 11/16/2025 Sears Ad: Washer & Choice of Dryer

People nearby had that washer and the $118 dryer, looked quite matched. It was an actual 2 speed washer but had one water inlet, so temp is set at faucet and it filled to the top unless you stopped the timer at the water level you like and set timer at 5 minutes. Dryer was high or no heat set on...

    Grocery Shopping in 1971

I live in an Incorporated Village within the boundaries of a town. Our mill rate for property taxes is $2,10 higher than the town pays. People have tried to get me to run for the village Overseer but I am tired of doing that stuff now. It is a glorified HOA and has stricter rules that cost us...

    Grocery Shopping in 1971

In 1959 my family bought the land and had the original "camp" built for $7000. It became mine in 1989 and was appraised at $90000. I have done considerable work to the house since and have lived here permanently for almost 31 years. Now I could easily sell the house for $600000 +as this lake I...

    Time For a New Furnace

I grew up in a house with an oil Sears Homart Hot air octopus, I do miss Sears as all our appliances were Sears Kenmore. But any standing pilot wastes up to 1/3 of gas usage so I l light the pilot every time I turn on my gas Hearthstone and fireplace I

    Time For a New Furnace

2 weeks ago I had a new metal roof installed. In the middle of the night, things were falling off my fireplace mantle. Went back to sleep and the next night, same thing. I got up in the middle of the night, turned the lights on and there was 3 flying squirrels on the rafters. Next morning I got...

Whirlpool Bathtubs & Jetted Showers Are A Fad

I remodeled my bathroom several years ago and put in a Jacuzzi jetted tub. Now that I am older, I now wish I had put in a full size walk in shower. I never use the tub as it takes forever to fill.

    WT Grant/Bradford appliance sourcing

Bradford washers were junk. I had an Empress 18 given to me that ran and had a filter flow. Transmission seals must have been toast as it leaked oil into the washtub. Junked at only 5 years old.

    Time For a New Furnace

I have a New Yorker oil fired boiler that handles both heat and hot water for my 2000 sq. ft. house. Its now just over 30 years since it was first installed and still runs fine. It has had some parts replaced over the years but the combustion chamber is still snow white, thanks to the power vent...

    Kenmore Dryer

I had that same Kenmore dryer from 1975ish. Great dryer, mine was gas. Given to my ex-brother-in-law along with a 70 series washer with a clogged self=cleaning filter and I bought my Maytag 511 washer and 410 dryer that I am still using today.
