    Type of Heat?

You can run the whole Manhattan if you like, that doesn't change the basic laws of physics nor touch me the littlest and trust me that I know how HVAC works ;) Now, 5 millions sounds a tad expensive, how big is the building, how many flats? Also, if the lower apartments literally roast, given...

    Type of Heat?

Do you have a better solution? Hot water radiators or better underfloor heating, heaven in comparison, plus MUCH more energy efficient as they can be used with local condensing boiler (or several smaller one in chain, even more efficient!), even in large dwellings (see my condo, with 100...

    Type of Heat?

People opening their windows in the winter to let out... You must be kidding! I understand that most of the heating is done via steam in NY (Which in my eyes is anachronistic) but that steam must be generated somewhere so releasing heat in the atmosphere means that more energy has to be...

    Type of Heat?

The most exotic, let me use the term, thing I ever seen for central heating is this "artisan" made fireplace with hot water insert in a rural house I own, see the pics attached ;) I just recently had it fixed with a new circulation pump. It's a closed vase system with overpressure and automatic...

    Type of Heat?

My oh my! Never seen such a thing in my life! The only hint I ever had was from the "Home Alone" film! Hahahahaha, a scary monster.

Colston Ariston Automatic Wash and Tumble Dry 850 XD

Nothing short of amazing! That machine sure is lovely! Plus, I ADORE the fact that is a vented combo!

    Oven Cleaning

Gosh, what a strange situation in the US! That's the real opposite from here, here ovens are tightly regulated and you can actually see a decrease in resources used since the old days as insulation and shielding are going to be improved. Even oven have energy classes with the best in the A-20%...

Awesome LED lamp deal from HD

I have enough CFL bulbs to last a lifetime Actually in my opinion you shouldn't stock up on CFL lamps as the electronics in them usually age quite badly so even when storing them with care you can't expect a longer life than 10 years or so before the capacitors start leaking or dry up or...

    Oven Cleaning

Aqua-lift / Vapour clean / etc... Even in "traditional" electric ovens you can have the same effect running the thing around 80°C for half an hour or so with a little pan filled with water. As soon as the oven starts cooling a little, wipe everything off. Most of the dirt will be gone. I use...

    Samsung Eco Bubble UK

Zodawash, believe it or not, but Samsung has among the worst reputation an appliance company can have, to the point that the rage for the incident of the exploding Candy machine was just a nuisance in comparison! And as I said, on the other hand I personally wouldn't buy anything that is made...

    Samsung Eco Bubble UK

Why buy Samsung?! First error was to believe a 12 kg capacity in a standard sized machine, secondly comes the "eco bubble" fraud. I'm too with Chris (Ronhic), have it refunded and get something from a more reputable manufacturer! (Anyone that produces in Europe...)

    Oven Cleaning

Well, my oven has concealed elements too (top/bottom/fan) and the top grill one also has a removable splash guard on top of it but the longest cleaning cycle is "just" 3 hours, you can select quick/normal/extensive cycles plus an "eco" one that just lasts 1,5 hours but doesn't really clean much...

    Oven Cleaning

Apart the HUGE power consumption of 9 kWh that made me dizzy (more than three times as much as a "standard" cleaning in a normal modern oven here), what scares (yup, scares!) me the most are the temperatures that those ovens reach on certain areas! Gosh, it is illegal to have such hot surfaces...

Awesome LED lamp deal from HD

Domestic LED lamps with a CRI of 90? I must be dreaming... the best I found was in the 80-82 range with poor red rendition! (You must value the colours separately to have something even vaguely meaningful). Anyway, I really like my CFL, got all of them on the "quick start" variety and they...

Awesome LED lamp deal from HD

What is the colour rendering index on those lamps? I'm quite sceptical on led lighting... just recently accepted compact fluorescents. Halogen is the way to go for me, like real daylight but... what a cost! :S

    Miele t 355 de luxe!!!!

Looks much better built (must say almost over-built) than the contemporary Miele dryers... ah the time when it was worthwhile to spend on Miele!

    1955 GE COMBO Restoration

COMBO52: Separate Shaded Pole Drain Pump Motor ...must say that BOTH the pump and the fan in my washer/dryer are run from a couple of such motors! :) Totally separate from the drum motor which is a "classic" two speed induction motor. Now, back on thread... WHAT A FABULOUS MACHINE! I think...

    New Equator Combo!

From the posted characteristics I would say that my 1985 combo does a better job all around... plus it's totally stainless steel inside and out! And not a single part of it is "made in Asia"! And no, it did't cost 1400 USD even when new! Go figure, of those 1400$ the real price of the machine...

    About electricity bills

"they sent a guy to check my meter" If it works like here, after the check-up and if everything with the meter is on order, you'll be charged an hefty fee! (in the 200€ range over here) Anyway, arbilab made a good question, what is your power cost per kWh? Mine is 0,27€/0,38 USD/0,23 GBP/0,42 AUD

    About electricity bills

In Italy electricity prices are tiered for the domestic users. The average 3,5 people family consumes around 3500 kWh/year and the current price for that amount is around 0,27€/kWh (around 0,38$), that's around my annual consumption and price. Methane cost is around 1€ per cubic metre, rising...
