    Thermofan or regular ?

If you get a SMEG oven/cooker with fan forced function and pyrolitic cleaning you won't be disappointed! I love mine and the oven bakes so evenly that you can't distinguish the top from the bottom of an eclair cooked in there. They're the best ovens I've ever used! Also if you don't have piped...

1950s Can Opener Motor - Need Help

Gosh! That motor looks almost exactly the same as the one moving the fan of my washer-dryer! I mean, even the side mountings are 100% identical ahahah :D

    Oven bake-ability...

It's a mistery! But I know that if I bake in my B/F Electrolux oven, everything comes ut CRAP! While if I use the SMEG I have, things come out "proper"! And even if I use a classic, non fan-forced-air, at my rental flat. My guess is that Swedish guys don't know how to bake ahahahhaha :D

    Electrolux Aqualux EW1200i intergrated washer/dryer

That SURE is older than 7/8 years... try double that age or even three times as much! :D As said, try checking the carbon brushes!

Vintage Air Conditioners. The Holy Grail of vintage appliances?

23,000 BTUs @ 6 BTUs per watt means it drew 3,833 watts.... CIT. "23,000 BTUs @ 6 BTUs per watt means it drew 3,833 watts. At 220v it used 17.42 amps. 16 amps maximum(80%) are allowed on a 20a circuit. This beast required a 220v 30a circut and had a huge plug the size [and configuration] of an...

A bag full of stuff NOT made in China

Thank GOD that I still can 100% avoid the "made in China/India or whatever asian country you please" unless I go to the electronics department. (and avoiding Ikea of course!) Just need to be careful choosing has it has been said! And price difference isn't that great!

INCIs - Do you care what`s in your toiletries ?

Gosh, you're such an eco-freak! Microwave oven are dangerous again?! Everybody has his own opinions but something like that can't be heard on a forum where the main subjects are appliances.

    Air Conditioner Mystery

You can have plenty of water cooled systems over here, however they're not popular on the small scale because of the expense of the cooling water if one doesn't have a closed loop system or some other kind of "discharge" for the waste heat...

INCIs - Do you care what`s in your toiletries ?

That's so bad to hear! But honestly I'm glad that that the regulations are stringent, plus there is a nation-wide campaign now to raise awareness in the composition of all household and beauty products! It is like "skin irritation, bad effects? Call your doctor and notify about product XYZ to...

And they've arrived in the UK (well 2 have anyway), Finally

Gosh, it looks ghastly! Even worse than the usual B/S/H styling! And all that plastic and oversized chrome door... give me anything else anyday!

INCIs - Do you care what`s in your toiletries ?

I'm very careful to what's inside the stuff I buy, but especially WHERE they are made and WHO makes them! I think that the current European regulation is stringent enough so I don't really worry about the composition. And since I don't believe in organic stuff and as somebody else said so...

Fuel Cost Caculator For Home Heating

CIT. "Our highest residential rate tier for electricity is something like $.35/KWH. Highest for gas is about $1.10/therm." Welcome to the basic energy rates that we have in Italy... it's all growing from there! (If you're lucky enough, otherwise it starts more expensive already!) And we have...

Fuel Cost Caculator For Home Heating

Plus I forgot to add that with the standard heating efficiencies the chart is MUCH unbalanced in favour of coal... gas boilers have efficiencies up to 108% of the PCI now and wood an pellet burners are in the area of 90-92%! And there are many condensing liquid fuel burners too that reach...

A bit of an unseasonal addition......

Excellent! Does it freeze properly? Remember that when you're moving it, never capsize it or tip on a side: it will cause the lubricant oil to move away from the compressor! Otherwise you'll have to wait a few hours for it to settle again otherwise you risk ruining the cooling system. As for...

Fuel Cost Caculator For Home Heating

Is it even legal to domestically burn coal in the US?! :O Here in most towns you're allowed to only burn methane or GPL gas because of pollution regulations and diesel (yup, like cars) burners are having a hard time as the thing is as expensive as GPL gas and requires much more maintenance...

Report states we are all covered in s---- fecal matter....

MRX! Just said it right! People is beginning to be too scared of germs... a house is not a sterile chamber in a hospital!

US Expat Describes The Best And Worst Things About England

there was probably about 5 trains a day in both directions Picture my jaw dropping... (very few trains!) here Trenitalia (the national railways company) has a high speed train every 15 or 20 minutes from Rome to Milan and its competitor NTV has trains every half an hour or so every day and this...

    P-7 Light bulbs?

At least here you can get two types of lamps for ovens, in different wattages (25, 40, 60, 75, 100W) that withstand 300°C (for non pyrolitic ones) and 500°C versions (for pyrolitic ones). They cost just a couple € more than a standard CFL light bulb. I used one of those to replace a defective...

US Expat Describes The Best And Worst Things About England

Love high-speed trains! I can get to Milan in an hour, Florence in 30 minutes, Venice in 1,5 hours, Rome in 2 hours and Naples in 3,5 hours! Even getting to Naples, unless using fast-lanes and preferred check-in at the airport, is quicker by train because you already are in the city centre! And...
