    laundry pet peevs

Pet Peeves Mixing colors and every type of fabric in one load. People using spray rinses (not selecting fabric softener option). Using cheap detergent Washing loads in cold when it is inappropriate. Using every additive under the sun, but still washing in cold. Refusing to use any other...

Rewearing clothes -- many times, never, or somewhere in the middle?

It depends I usually wear sweatshirts and pants until they are dirty, smell, or have any particular reason to be washed. With t-shirts, underwear, and socks, they are washed every time. Towels are usually used until they are visibly soiled or smell (Lol), usually a week. Sheets are weekly.

the dishwasher detergent thing and the bleach

Detergent Currently using Kirkland Premium pacs, but I have a bottle of Cascade bleach gel. We have very hard water and with heavily soiled loads I will put the Costco pac in the silverware basket and the Cascade in the dispenser. It actually makes a great combo. Our only issue with stains are...

    Smelly laundry: TMI

Bleach and Septic Bleach breaks down surprisingly quickly. If the load wasn’t colors, that’s what I would recommend. Ammonia is gonna be effective.

    When did P&G fabric softeners....

nauseating It has been a while. The only Downy we purchase is Clean Breeze. Original Gain isn't horrible, but is just too strong. Otherwise, you are correct, all other softeners are too strong or smell like candy. I would really like to try Lenor Spring Awakening, but as you said it is pricey...

    Are laundry sanitizers worth it?

Laundry Sanitizers I prefer the OxiClean Laundry Sanitizer. It is used in the wash instead of the rinse, so the product is rinsed out and has longer time to work. Though, washing and drying the clothes will likely do the trick.

Why do all newer transmission made Speed Queens low speed spin drain after main wash?

Suds/foam My bet is on the suds and foam issue at the standpipe that seems to be fairly common in these machines. If it were purely for water efficiency, I doubt they would use it on the Heavy Duty cycle as well. Could be wrong though.

2004 Maytag Neptune TL makes clothes smell

Neptune TL Use 1 cup of citric acid on a wash that runs a higher water level, like Bulky, using hot. That should remove a lot of gunk. Then run a bleach cycle. Hope that helps.

Pet Hair & Your Laundry, How to Cope..

Pet Hair Well, currently we have a large lab and a great pyrenees. So, we know about dog hair. We try to vacuum daily, and that does make a large difference. Our clothes generally do not have pet hair on them because I always use at least 1/2 a dryer sheet and the reduce static option is always...

Maytag Pet Pro Washer & Dryer

Pet Pro After using a Maytag HE TL recently to wash 2 very dirty blankets covered in dog hair, I will tell you that the machine didn't do a damned thing to remove the hair. Of course, the blankets struggled to move, and I suspect wouldn't be too much better with a higher water level due to the...

More internet insanity - This time about vac'ing carpets.

Slow vacuuming I have always used the vacuum in 2 directions to kind of back this theory up. I don't particularly sweep fast, but not too slow like advised above. As someone else mentioned, hard wood floors are nice, but all the pet hair flows around like you wouldn't believe. I prefer a little...

Kenmore (LG) FL squeaking when coasting from a spin. Please tell me it isn't bearing issues!

bearing Telling by your username, you probably are overthinking it! Lol. When my Duet's bearings started to go bad, I could hear a very faint chatter, rather than a squeak. It happened regardless of spin speed, which spin it was performing, and would get just a touch louder with each cycle.

    LG washtower

WashTower Use the Towels cycle on the app. You can permanently download the cycle to the machine via the app. It uses a great water level, and performs 3 normal rinses with strong interim spins.

Sous-Vide or Not Sous-Vide that is the question...

Sous-Vide I have an ANOVA Sous-Vide machine and I will tell you that some of the best chicken I have ever had has been made with it. I don't use it for any more than 2 hours. Steak turns out well, but I prefer it on the grill just for flavor. I would really like to see if you have success with...

    Canola Oil

sudsmaster Thanks for the suggestion! I will have to read that! I recently had blood work done and was diagnosed with high triglycerides. I started using Avocado oil for the first time, and I am actually impressed.

10 year old LG Top Loader leaving (Mold)? dark spots/flecks on clothes

Flakes It might be worth running a tub clean cycle and seeing if that helps. Add 1 cup of citric acid and it will clean very well.

    fancy washing machines

Fancy My Duet probably was considered fancy for its time. However the Kenmore isn’t considered fancy now. The Duet had very useful features that were big selling points at that time, and the Kenmore just had options and cycles I preferred. I think the features and innovations are what I would...

Here we go again, the mantra of washing laundry in cold water

Cold water washes I generally do 1 load of dark colors a week in 75°F water. I have noticed that detergents do clean much better at this temperature than they did 10 years ago. However, after many washes I find that my clothes can have deodorant and oily stains on them that is removed in one...
