I will chime in here and say that I would go with a SQ top loader if I had the extra $$ My 50 year old Maytag A606 died and all I want is a machine that actually fills with water, has an agitator, doesnt shred my clothes and also does not take an hour to wash a load.

UPDATE As instructed by Yogitunes we removed the belts, spun the center main pulley and going one direction the entire tub and tranny spun. But spinning it the opposite direction nothing spun. Not the tub or the agitator. Could it be the pulley rather than a timer or transmission issue...
