    WHAT would YOU do?

Where I live, the trash collection day doesn't change for any holiday except Christmas. So you have to put it out if you want it to be picked up.

    Thanksgiving

I can't imagine 85 people in a house, unless it's a palatial mansion. My sister likes to entertain large groups. They used to have "wing-dings" several times during summer and fall, and usually had anywhere between 75 and 150 attend. The largest was a HS graduation party for my youngest nephew...

    WHAT would YOU do?

We had a 1963 Westinghouse dryer. The pushbutton temperature selector switch was made by GE. Most GE appliances are NOT made in China. Many are manufactured at Appliance Park in Louisville KY. Some of the components are from China, of course.

    Thanksgiving

I had my Thanksgiving dinner at Cracker Barrel last night. I'd thought about calling my buddy Roy to see if he wanted to go, but knew that if he did, that he would probably want to go no later than 5:00 PM. I knew it would be really crowded at that time, plus I wouldn't really be hungry by then...

I need help finding out what type stove I have please (I don't know where else to post this)

I can tell you with certainty that your range was made between 1955 and 1957. Hotpoint introduced their color appliances in early 1955, and their ranges were totally restyled for 1958. The official name for the color is "Coral Pink". You might want to look through old magazines if you are near a...

    Commercial Blender

Is there a Wasserstrom store located near you? They are usually very helpful in suggesting the correct product. They also have a Website. Most cities of any size have a restaurant supply place.

    WHAT would YOU do?

I'm thinking about having my electric meter moved out to the pole in my side yard, where the wires come down to go underground. I just know it will be expensive.

You sound like the little boy in the 1955 song "Nuttin' for Christmas"!

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Thirty-two

When I was a little kid, my neighbors the Sircle family had the "Embassy" model in the blonde finish, with the swivel base. Mrs Sircle was beautiful, as she looked almost exactly like Lena Horne.

Buying a new Toilet this weekend - Any advice?

Charmin tissue is notorious for clogging drains. When I was renting the "hovel", the landlady warned me not to use it, or there would be sewer issues. Eventually it got so bad that any tissue would block it. Water from the upstairs bathroom and sinks would cause the downstairs toilet to...

Buying a new Toilet this weekend - Any advice?

I forgot to add that the flush valve toilets require a larger than standard water line -1". I got all new plumbing, both supply lines and drainage, so not an issue.

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Thirty-two

Washers should have continued to be made with Monel Metal inner and outer tubs (or stainless steel), which would have avoided the rust problem. My dad's Uncle Fred and Aunt Hazel had Monel sinks and countertops in their 1936 house, which still looked new 55 years later when the property sold.

Buying a new Toilet this weekend - Any advice?

A wall mounted toilet requires a part called a "carrier", that bolts to the floor at the bottom of the inside of the wall, and the wall framing. This item was actually more expensive than the toilet itself. It also requires a thicker wall assembly to accommodate the plumbing. I was doing a major...

I wonder what goes on in that trailer? Probably need a sign that reads: If this trailer is a 'rockin, don't come a 'knockin"!

Buying a new Toilet this weekend - Any advice?

I have a Kohler toilet that is wall mounted and no tank, as it uses a Sloan flush valve. I've had it about 7 years, and it works very well. Never had it clog. One of my friends had his bathroom done over last summer. The toilet, vanity cabinet, and medicine cabinet are all Glacier Bay from HD...

    Modern Living: Part Seventeen

I remember the corner model toilet being in the catalog, but we didn't have it on display. Unfortunately they were having some problems with their porcelain enamel at that time. I don't know how many cast iron lavatories got returned due to the enamel flaking off, but it was frequently. After a...

    Modern Living: Part Seventeen

I worked in a plumbing supply showroom back around 1989-90, a job I really liked. We were a distributor for Eljer, and had several mock ups of full bathrooms. Among the fixtures on display were a couple bidets. It was fun to hear people's comments about what they thought these were. Some...

    The KitchenAid EnergySaver IV's - 16mm Film

We had an earlier model KitchenAid - a KDI-16, bought in early 1971. It replaced the GE from 1958, and my mom found it to be far superior. It was easier to load, cleaned better, and held up better. It was still functioning when I tore out the kitchen about 40 years later, as opposed to the GE...

    Consolette stereos: 1958-74...

One of my neighbors used to have one that looked a great deal like that. They either received it as a wedding gift, or bought it shortly after their marriage in 1961. It had a walnut finish.
