Whirlpool Bathtubs & Jetted Showers Are A Fad

When I worked at a plumbing supply company in 1989-91, those tubs were all the rage. We were an Eljer distributor, but also stocked Lasco and other brands. We had access to Kohler and various other lines. In our showroom there were about eight bathroom setups, and only two were standard...

Near new looking Kenmore stove at our restore for $150 Canadian.

Receptacles on a range made more sense on the 39-40" models, where there was more space, and cords could be kept away from the elements. Our 30" Westinghouse had a receptacle near the right edge of the backsplash. I never saw my mom use an appliance on the range top. Most of the time a radio on...

    WT Grant/Bradford appliance sourcing

Yes, Birtman made Sears vacuums for many years, in addition to their own brand Bee-Vac. They also made mixers for Sears. The company merged with Whirlpool in 1957. I remember the Singer made Kenmore upright vacs.

The History of the Introduction of the Automatics thru Newspapers

Jamie, I know exactly where you're talking about, as I have a couple doctors at Good Samaritan. I also have a friend down in Camp Washington. If you've not been in the area for a while, you might not recognize it.

Do any of you know who the manufacturer of this was? It looks slightly like the one my friend Richard has, which I think is Whirlpool.

The History of the Introduction of the Automatics thru Newspapers

I remember Shillito's selling AMC appliances, and always thought they looked "cheap" in comparison to the GE models they also sold. I see in the ad that the downtown appliance department was on the sixth floor. By the time I was old enough to observe anything, that department had been relocated...

    Whirlpool Presents: "Keep Your Cool....Line" - 1970 16mm

I was told this by a woman who owned a Sears Authorized Catalog Merchant store in the town where I live. This was in 1976, when I worked for her part time. I also heard similar from another of my mom's friends whose son-in-law was rather high up in Sears in Chicago. I believe the maximum amount...

You must be talking about the Winton Rd. location, near Spring Grove Ave. Did you live in Clifton?

    Vintage Food Advertisements: Part Twenty-five

I'm familiar with Bac-os, of course, but don't remember On-yos or Nut-os. They must not have been successful.

The History of the Introduction of the Automatics thru Newspapers

The Fair Store was located in downtown Cincinnati. I don't remember it, as it was closed either before I was born, or when I was very young. The buildings were demolished in 1958 for a new parking garage. I well remember Rike's in Dayton. I was in their stores several times. Later they became...

    Throwing away food

Last week I had to throw out a loaf of buttercrust bread I had bought at a bakery five days earlier. I took a slice out and saw it had a tiny spot of mold on the crust. After carefully examining the rest, and finding no more, I tore that side off, and ate the rest. The next day I looked, and saw...

    Whirlpool Presents: "Keep Your Cool....Line" - 1970 16mm

Dave, at that time Sears had substantial ownership of Whirlpool.

    Modern Living: Part Seventeen

My former neighbor Thelma had Ekco Flint cookware, bought in the mid 1950s. It still looked new when she died in 2005. It was always hand washed, as they never had a dishwasher.

On the Kenmore dryer, that is.

That's a very strange color. It's obviously not Avocado, but doesn't look Turquoise either. Sears and Whirlpool had a light green, but that was around 1956 or so, and this one is 1960s.

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Thirty-two

My mom had two of those. One quit working, and she bought a later models in the late 1970s, when Universal was a GE division.

    Vintage Food Advertisements: Part Twenty-five

I bought some Necco wafers recently at Cracker Barrel, but haven't eaten them yet. They had chocolate ones, too, but I got the regular. My friend Jay told me that when he was a kid, he played Church, and was the priest. He used Necco wafers and grape Nehi for his Holy Communion.

    General Electric Range 1950s - 1960s Identification?

Yes, it had been when new. Unfortunately by the time he lived there about ten years ago, it no longer was. It had become subsidized housing, and many of the residents took no pride in their homes, and let the place become a dump. He soon bought a house a few blocks away.

    General Electric Range 1950s - 1960s Identification?

That basic model was made for many years. The small details are what differentiate one year from another. The local GE dealer was still selling a version of it in the early 1970s, with, as Lawrence mentioned, different knobs and a grounded receptacle on the backsplash. Usually on sale at a low...

How do you view AutomaticWasher, org ?

If at home, on my phone, as that's all I currently have. The last PC I had was struck by lightning several years ago. If at the library, on their desktop computer.
