    Which dishwasher gel to use?

Oh and one other thing When the machine was new I tried both Cascade and Finish’s TOL packs that claimed to protect dishes. Shine shield and all that rot. In both cases the pods caused an oversuds condition and the machine sounded like it was totally choking on suds. No spraying was...

    Which dishwasher gel to use?

Hi I never pre-rinse but I do wipe off excess grease or oil with a paper towel because my kitchen and laundry are the same stack, and laundry lint and grease/oil in the same wastewater pipe in an 85 year old house is not a good thing. One exception. When I have a party everything goes in...

    Which dishwasher gel to use?

Thanks! I did not know that fine china manufacturers advise chlorine based gel. Fantastic to know. I wondered why Finish gel is still chlorine based and maybe that answers my question. It would be consistent with my experience that Finish is easier on dishes than Cascade. The NYT Wirecutter...

    Which dishwasher gel to use?

I never use pacs because I like to dose less to avoid etching and dulled dishes. And I have a water softener so I need to dose less than pacs. Cascade powder started etching and clouding my glasses so I switched to Finish powder and it was fabulous. But my box is getting old so it isn’t...

Persil Powder gets a rave review

The German Persil gels Are now far more concentrated than they used to be. Now they dose like the American Persil liquid — only need a dab in a FL. Used to be I’d need up to 3/4 of a capful with the bottle of German Persil gel I had before. Fabulous product.

Speed Queen top-loader towels smell bad

Colored towels? Most likely chlorine bleach will not change their color or change them to white. Hard to believe but I’ve never had a bath towel change color with chlorine bleach. Besides, what difference does it make. Getting clean is more important. Also make sure you’re drying them on...

Speed Queen top-loader towels smell bad

Clean the inside of the agitator Pull up on the fabric softener dispenser to remove it. Or see You Tube videos on how to do that. Then check the inside of the agitator. It is hollow. And might be filmed with black mold or other smelly slime from detergent and/or fabric softener build up...

    My “new” Cadillac

I learned how to drive With a 1975 Fleetwood. Parents would not let me have my own car as a teen so that was what I got to drive when I did get to drive. That or Dad’s 1976 Eldorado. No car has ever come up to that for me. Not that I have ever been able to afford a car in that price class...

It’s a real shame to hear That your TG weekend was spoiled with stress over the site going down. ☹️ Burnout is such a real thing in our early 60s. Even though I exercise and take good care of myself, there’s been a sea change and I simply cannot do what I used to do, either mentally or...

New Gas Dryer—just need hooked up!

Oh….. Every time I have bought a gas appliance from a big box store, they charged for delivery and installation, and then upon delivery the tech always had a flimsy excuse as to why they wouldn’t install. Every time. And I’ve heard the same stories from others. So I don’t buy from big box...

The More Things Change, The More They Stay the Same

Inflation and COL then vs now The price tag on those obviously used wringers: $42.50. Assuming that photo is from the mid to late 1950s, then in today’s dollars that would be over $400. Imagine paying between $400 and $500 for someone else’s used washer, and only a wringer! We tend to...

New Speed Queen 7009 Front-Load Washer & Companion Dryer

Improvements Saw a YT video of a new SQ FL. Wow! The balancing routine has been greatly shortened with the end result as good or better. And it spins much longer and faster in between rinses. Cool! If there were a way I could download those changes onto the computer in mine, I would do...

Re #60 Since nobody else answered, and this is based on mine which is 6 or 7 years old by now, but the Delicate cycle does tumble slower. There is one water level, to the lip of the tub and slightly spilling over into the boot, for both wash and rinse, on all cycles except Normal Eco, which...

Fill Hi Eugene — It fills from behind the drum. From the detergent drawer, the water runs into a tube that pours behind the drum. I thought of something else you need to know. After your machine finishes its brand new honeymoon, it will start making loud clanking/banging sounds when the...
