    My Newest Toy...

That's good to know Lawrence.... I'm glad to know that you're still pleased. Bodes well for longevity (that's usually not a problem for me--most appliances hold up for ages under my care). I wasn't sorry to see the compact go....it really wasn't enough for my family gatherings.

    My Newest Toy...

Thanks.... ...I'm happy with it for what I paid for it (that was about the max I could manage and pay it all at once). It certainly cleans more evenly than the old one did. I think the Finish tabs are a huge part of that. Even the old dying Frigidmore did a good job with those, and it was...

    Old Kenmore Direct Drive questions

On the DD Machines.... I like the agitator with the lint filter...with the pet hair I deal with, wish mine had it.

    interesting haier washer motor

When I Was Washer Shopping in 2010... ...I considered a Haier front loader (energy efficient and inexpensive), until I read the comments on here, and the user reviews on virtually every site that sold them. While most were happy with the little Haier top loaders, almost everyone complained that...

    Countertop Dishwashers?

    Here are the specs for the Danby from Walmart... Danby... 18.88 x 22.44 x 17.0 (L x W x H) Shipping weight: 66 lbs....so about 60 lbs to move.   While I was there, I looked up the Haier..   Haier Countertop Dishwasher 22.6 x 18.9 x 17.2 (L x W X H) Shipping Weight: 56 lbs   So, while...

    Countertop Dishwashers?

They're about the size of a largish microwave.... If you have the closet or storage space for that, you should be able to hide it away if they come snooping. Note that the sink adaptor does look different than the standard faucet adapter on kitchen faucets, so you might wanna keep the old one...

    My Newest Toy...

My little Kenmore 18 inch dishwasher started dying a while back, and rather than repair what was a very mediocre machine, I replaced it with a new full sized portable. Since I did some minor renovations so the kitchen could have a full-sized washer and dryer, I also had space for a full sized...

    GE SP-40N!!!

Wonderful Brochure... Interesting that it's so water efficient. It uses about the same amount of water as the new "Energy Star" models.

    Estate Sale Finds

My Uncle and Aunt Had One.... ....they installed their under sink model in the mid 90s in an old kitchen. Worked really well...I think they kept it until they built their new house. Only problem was capacity....that slim upper rack really limits what you can load into them.

    The Weather Is Warmer!

I've been using my drying rack.... ...I have a big drying rack from Ikea that has 47 yards of space, along with a tripod dryer for hanger stuff. So far, it's been raining, close to raining, or downpouring when I've been doing laundry. So my indoor dryers are getting a workout.   I can hardly...

    Old Kenmore Direct Drive questions

Welcome... ...let's see...IIRC...the early direct drive machines did do a spin drain but I'm not sure when that stopped. A lot of the newer models erroneously spin drain once they get some wear and tear on them....my TOL Whirlpool did. You can still trick them into spinning by opening the lid...

    Appliance Painting

Harvest Gold Stove Back when I was a kid and we were renting, we had that same exact stove in harvest....IIRC it actually cooked and baked quite nicely for a cheapie. My mother enjoyed using it, and she's super baker, super cook.

    Appliance Painting

I'm not in Sacramento... ...but I used to work with a lady who tired of the avocado in her kitchen. She had replaced all but the fridge and portable dishwasher and they were still serviceable but stuck out like a sore thumb.   She contacted an automotive paint place who happily turned them...

How do you add your soap?

John, I have both detergent and soap flakes in my laundry arsenal, so if you ask for soap, you really do get soap. It usually confuses family if they're staying with me. At that point I just grab the Ultra Plus. I hear you about the skin issues....that's how I got started with making my own...

How do you add your soap?

Admiralpool Top Loader I start the wash fill, add detergent/soap under water inlet, let the water fill to about 1/4 full and add clothes.

    April fresh?????????????????????????????

For anyone that has a Save-a-lot nearby... I don't use fabric softener very much, but for those rare times that I do, I have a bottle of the Angel Fresh from Save-a-lot. Nice soft fragrance in the same tradition of original April Fresh, softens well, and is not expensive. The scent seems to...

Ways to Save Money on Laundry....

Keep in Mind... ....that it's just me and my furbabies here, but I did one of those online energy audits where you plug in how you use your appliances and all that stuff. I was looking to buy a new washing machine at the time and wanted to see if going Energy Star would be a good option for me...

    Ecos DuoDish

I Have My Doubts.... ....serious doubts. I've used the Ecos laundry detergent with supposed soy fabric softener before and I was thoroughly underwhelmed. How is the detergent supposed to have enough alkalinity to machine clean while still be gentle enough for the hands? Maybe for someone who...

Applainces used for Home Ecomomics in your School & Educational Institutions

Our Home EC Lab in the Early/Mid 80s... ...our home ec lab was outfitted with several new GE self-cleaning electric ranges, one common Litton (???) microwave oven (micros were spendy back then), a common Amana fridge, and a GE filter flo washer and matching dryer. IIRC, it all worked...

    Free Filter Flo Pair

I hope that someone can save them....they're a similar trim line to the GE set that I had in my early 20's...a wonderful washer and dryer that I stupidly got rid of and have regretted it since.
