"It Can Be Done" - 16mm Film

Seems to be A LOT of Whirlpools and Kenmores in the scrap pile. Meanwhile, don’t see many Maytags (at least from what I can tell) in comparison to everything else. Either didn’t sell many in that particular region, or they just won’t die.

LK Belt Drive problem. What’s happening?

My Whirlpool was in service from 1963 to 2005, never a problem from what I could tell with the wires on the control magnet assembly. I had them in service from June of 2021 to April of 2022, not a problem with them either. Put them back into service in June of 2022 and were in service until 2023...

Let's make a timeline of Westinghouse Slant Fronts!

Here’s one thing though, top loaders (mainly the old Kelvinators, Frigidaires, solid tub Speed Queens, solid tub Hotpoints from the 1950’s, Philco top loaders from the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, Whirlpools/Kenmores) are more entertaining to watch and observe from not only going through the...

Pink Lady Kenmore 800 Dryer in Chicago

There isn’t a difference in the tumble speed, just have it operate with a lower 4500 watt output on the ‘special drying setting’ to keep things such as bedding and sheets in the air stream a bit longer so they’ll dry to completion.

Pink Lady Kenmore 800 Dryer in Chicago

That’s the thing I like about mine, it doesn’t really ball up anything at all. Sometimes it will, but since I use the slower ‘tumble speed’ which drops the wattage down therefore it ‘tumbles’ longer, blankets and sheets are dried to completion without being balled or tangled up which will...

LK Belt Drive problem. What’s happening?

Sounds about right. Thought it could have been the clutch grabbing, but tuns out the belt was a bit on the loose side.

Pink Lady Kenmore 800 Dryer in Chicago

Definitely the Soft Heat with the 37,000 btu burner that tapers down as things get dried.

LK Belt Drive problem. What’s happening?

Sounds like the clutch is grabbing too much or could be a motor issue possibly.

    Ungrounded Outlets

Hate to rain on your parade, but you need to slow down on the posts and focus more on quality, not quantity.

    Ungrounded Outlets

This thread is quite old, but you can’t pry 120v 60hz off my cold dead hands, also can’t pry 240v split phase 60hz off of my cold dead hands as well. You can discuss and argue until you are blue in the face, but 120v /240v split phase power will always be more safe and flexible compared to...

Replaced Maytag DE606 belts, but too loose

That’s the correct tension, reason for it being ever so slightly loose is to slip just a tad bit upon start up to take strain off of the motor. Maytag belts are usually designed to slip for a clutching effect to take wear and tear off of the main motor, along with reducing complexity on the washers.

    Whirlpool Design 2000...

There have been quite a few discussions of the direct drives over the years on the site. Certainly have proved themselves, but have been discussed numerous times over the years. I think there needs to be more discussion of the older belt drives. Certainly a favorite of mine since the slower...

Replaced Maytag DE606 belts, but too loose

Is there lots of slippage on the motor pulley? If so, the pot metal or aluminum pulley is worn causing lots of slippage despite there being new belts installed.

Whirlpool and Samsung are reducing the maximum spin speed on their washers

I don’t always keep up in the realm of news in regards to newer washers, but there might be a reason why Whirlpool and Samsung are reducing the spin speeds a bit. My guess is it’s probably to do with wrinkling as mentioned by John, or maybe the engineers discovered there’s not much of a...

    Whirlpool drum belt

Does anyone happen to know what the part number is for the pre 1966 Whirlpool dryers? Just wondering since the belt on mine is probably a number of years old and has a tendency to squeak a little upon startup, quiets down after 5 minutes of running. I believe John mentioned the older drum...

    Thanksgiving

I believe it might be a ‘57 Imperial, though the Imperial coupes from 1957 to 1959 in terms of the rear end were quite similar. Though, the grille texture definitely changed between those years.

Happy Thanksgiving!! Since it’s fall, here’s a fitting photo with fall foliage with a late 50’s Imperial.

    My Take on Laundry Pods

As someone who’s apart of the Gen Z demographic, I don’t even bother with pods since as mentioned, one size fits all doesn’t really work in the real world. I’ll stick to using powders and soaps for the time being, proven and don’t pollute the environment with plastic and packaging.
