    The Maytag Atlantis

Never had experience with using these, but as John mentioned, didn’t have the greatest durability. While the Maytag helical design had its quirks, certainly was a more proven design. Still see a lot of Maytag Helicals out there since they were that reliable.

Front loader or top loader machines?

This debate has been going on for awhile, but for me I prefer top loading machines (preferably older models) with a lint filter. Here’s a video qsd-dan made of the effectiveness on a Maytag A806 filtering out lint from two dog beds awhile back.

Front loader or top loader machines?

That’s the biggest gripe I have about front loading machines, they literally take forever to balance and takes awhile to find a ‘sweet spot’. Top loading machines can go off balance for sure, but deliberately have to put heavy and light items together for that to happen. As long as you wash...

New GE FL washer line coming soon

In general, not crazy about front loaders because of the ergonomics, again are 1930’s technology. There are some great ones out there I’m sure, but in general aren’t all that good. Plus, need something with brisk and aggressive agitation since I live on an acre of land.

DG 808 Not Turning Off, Not Changing Temps

This is exactly why I put together a Maytag franken HOH dryer together without the electronic dry control.

Maytag DE606 Drum Centering and Oil Locations

Make sure to use Zoom Spout oil, the main drum bearing, blower bearing are sintered bronze bearings aka Oilite bearings. Interestingly enough, Oilite bearings were invented by Chrysler Corporation back in the 1930’s.

    The KitchenAid EnergySaver IV's - 16mm Film

That’s the one. Remember hearing it awhile back, but couldn’t find it easily.

    The KitchenAid EnergySaver IV's - 16mm Film

I discovered the KPM tracks not long ago, there was a tune by the name of ‘Metropolis’, however can’t seem to find it anywhere.

    AI Erasing Vintage Appliance History?

Every day that passes by, makes me wish AT&T was never broken up back in the 80’s. Definitely wouldn’t allow what is going on in the realm of AI and data collection that’s for sure.

    AI Erasing Vintage Appliance History?

I think AI will be the new ‘Hidden Killer’ one day.

    The KitchenAid EnergySaver IV's - 16mm Film

Honestly, mainstream TV isn’t worth a damn anymore. Same repetitive thing since 2010 to the present. Nothing but old stories and news which have been rehashed over and over and over again to the point where it’s nothing but propaganda anymore. Thankfully, YouTube has an endless amount of...

Easy dryer model DRB (or DR8) not heating

Here’s another question, did you check the main cycling thermostats? That could be why it’s not heating up.

Easy dryer model DRB (or DR8) not heating

Many older dryers were 4200, 4400, 4600, 4800 watts. May dry faster with a higher wattage heating element, unfortunately will cause problems with the high limit thermostat later on. Many older dryers are persnickety and fussy since some were quite sensitive, even more so when it comes to...

Dryer doors that open top-down vs. side swing

The only gripe I have about these is the incoming heat has a tendency to go through smaller loads and directly out the exhaust, a tendency to ball things up, a lint screen that’s tricky to clean with the way the hamper door is. May sound ludicrous, but I’d say these are more inefficient at...

The 1938 Frigidaire Bolt-Down Automatic Washer!

Here’s my 2 cents, I have no problem with AI being used to bring patents to life, recreating scenes and remastering photos and videos from a bygone era. However, I do have a problem with AI being used to create music and ripoff artists, certainly have a problem with AI being used for...

Would you buy an handmade washing machine?

Never had a problem with the 3 prong cords on my dryers, don’t know if anyone else who had problems with the 3 prong cord on their dryers either. The only one who would know that answer is John since he’s been working on appliances for the past 53 years or so.

Would you buy an handmade washing machine?

I believe grounded plugs on washers didn’t become mandatory until the late 50’s, a few Maytags I’ve seen in the archives (Whirlpool/Kenmore as well possibly) all had grounded cords on them. Wasn’t only for safety, but to protect the machine itself. Of course, electric dryers were grounded from...

Would you buy an handmade washing machine?

Most HE top loaders are nothing more than a glorified compact machine. A friend on discord has a Black & Decker compact/portable washer with an impeller, surprisingly works well and does multiple rinses, even allows you to select the water level too. Kind of sad when a compact version of a...

    For The GE Filter-Flow Guys

Honestly, GE never seemed to ‘get it’ when it came to laundry appliances. Had flaws that they never bothered to work out or improved, never even offered gas models until it was too late meanwhile Whirlpool offered electric and gas models from the get go, Maytag introduced gas models sometime...

    12v Automobile Battery

I think one of the reasons why batteries don’t last as long is the computer and various electronics are always pulling power albeit a very small amount. After awhile, it depletes and degrades the battery. Not sure how long batteries lasted in the 60’s and 70’s, but I’m sure it was a heck of a...
