    DSL

Cable vs. DSL I started with Verizon DSL (back when it was still Bell Atlantic), switched to Comcast cable high speed, and then went back to Verizon DSL. For my use, the huge increase in monthly cost of cable internet is not justified for the slightly faster downloading ability.

    What Company Makes What?

I got a new Kenmore refrigerator back in the fall and I'm fairly certain it's a rebadged Frigidaire. Someone please correct if I'm wrong. (It's a MOL 18 cu. ft. top-freezer model.)

    Tired of plungering

OK, I honed in on it. Toto Drake it is. I think you'll be very pleased. Problems people think they have had with the Drake have usually turned out to be more of a drain line problem. And I believe it's fair to say that you can stop up most any toilet if you cram it full of a half roll of...

    Tired of plungering

OK, so what is the good Bang (or Flush) for the Buck toilet? Either the Toto Ultramax or Toto Drake. They aren't the cheapest but they are excellent performers and easily self-servicable. Ultramax is one-piece and Drake is two. Price range for white is approx. $300 for Drake and closer to $400...

    Tired of plungering

Kohler Class Five These are supposed to be just "okay." There are still problems with plugging and poor bowl rinse. The higher-end Totos (Drake and Ultramax for basic high-end) are the best, hands down. The "spec" or landlord quality Totos are no better than any other cheapo. American...

    DSL

I also have Verizon DSL. I previously had Comcast high-speed for about $13 more per month. It downloaded slightly faster but it went out often and since my telephone is Vonage VoIP, this was not good. I have never had a problem with Verizon DSL. I have the $29.95 plan. A friend has the $14.95...

Did Anyone Not Have One Of These In Their Kitchen's?

...a commercial in there for Bell telephones a housewife is I have that on a video series I got as a gift for Christmas about 10 years ago. A woman is standing in her newly remodeled kitchen (with turquoise appliances) singing over her red wall phone to her friend about "...a new refrigerator...

    Aqua GE Electric Range

I'd give your firstborn for that range!

    Tired of plungering

The Habitat for Humanity salvage stores usually have a nice selection of used toilets of various vintages for $35. You can get a good old five gallon model, take it apart and give it a good wash with muriatic acid, put new guts in the tank for under $20 and a new seat (prices vary) and, though...

    Tired of plungering

The American Standard Champion has been an absolute fiasco. It's been on the market for over two years now and the bugs still are not worked out. Granted, the tank parts are warrantied for 10 years, but while you're waiting for new parts to arrive, your potty is out of commission and the same...

Fisher & Paykel... What's the word?

Thanks for the info, dadoes. So in the less expensive model, if I wanted to do a big load of white towels, am I not able to select a long "normal" cycle and maximum water level with hot wash and cold rinse? Does either washer model have a heater?

Fisher & Paykel... What's the word?

I have noticed that the F&P machines are offered in top and front-loading for the dryer (gas or electric) and then there are two washer models offered with an approximate $200 difference in the price tag. What are the major differences in the washers? If it's basically all a matter of more...

    Return of the King

It seems to work better to feed the cubes in small batches, four to six at a time. A couple of trays is probably sufficient. If you fill the chamber, they turn into a crushed frozen mess. My ice maker produces tons more than I can possibly use so my disposer gets frequent frozen treats!

    Return of the King

I've also read in various sources that grinding a tray of ice cubes from time to time is helpful at keeping the blades sharpened and citrus fruit peel eliminates odors and keeps everything smelling fresh.

    Thursday's "POD" Pix:

One day I hope to find an as-near-mint-as-possible turquoise range (preferably 30" electric GE) and then I will have my dishwasher, refrigerator and range hood painted to match. Someday!

    Thursday's "POD" Pix:

Did they bring back turquoise for just this particular model? Turquoise had been off the market for years by the Eighties.

    Re: First Family Color TV:

Ours was a Sylvania color console in 1966. I'm thinking it was a 23-inch. I remember that the cabinet was not real wood. If memory serves, it was more like a simulated wood contact paper, only heavier. Cheap cabinet aside, it had a beautiful picture, but true to the times, required constant...

    Norge POD

I haven't seen that picture in like 30 years! Doesn't he look at lot like David Hasselhoff? I read somewhere not too many years ago that he sued and won a fortune from Sears over that picture. I should be so lucky! Although I don't know that I'd care for that kind of "exposure." I'm kinda modest.

    Norge POD

OH MY GAWD!!! I just looked at the picture again. You know that kid holding the dog has to be the same one who grew up to pose for Sears men's underwear in '76 with his thingy hanging out the leg of his boxers!

    Norge POD

We had this washer (or one glaringly similar) until 1969 when it (and a mismatched Hotpoint dryer of similar vintage that my dad probably bought used) was replaced with a brand new matching Kenmore 70 set. I'm not sure whether the Norge washing machine was purchased new. My parents got it...
