    The Keymatic Arrives !!!

Does this actually use a card reader of some sort? That's what that thing at the bottom of the first shot of the electrics looks like. I assume the cards are printed circuit boards with edge contacts? I've never seen or heard of a machine like this.

If it's May, it MUST be ...

Cantankerous parents/grandparents hoover1060, your mom sounds just like my maternal grandmother. She wouldn't have any of those "new fangled contraptions" in the house. (She wouldn't have air conditioning either, which made the un-insulated house a miserable experience in the summer in central...

    Samsung Washer

Silver salts, like copper salts, have mild anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. However, I've never heard that the pure metal does. If metallic silver was really a strong chemical agent, it wouldn't be used in jewelry. Silver, like stainless steel, does have the property that bacteria...

    PINK whirlpool washer and dryer

Ya gotta love those lit logos. What do the orange pilot lights signify? Interesting how the builder put in those bathtub-style valves for the washer shutoffs. What do the hoses actually attach to?

    PINK hot point dishwasher

They had rinse aid back then? Wouldn't have guessed. When I was a child, in the early '60s, hardly anyone we knew had a dishwasher. Is that black thing in the front left corner of the lower rack a silverware basket?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is fascinated by washing machines!

Newbie! Let me take this thread as an opprotunity to jump in and introduce myself, and make a couple of comments. I've been fascinated by machines of all sorts since I was a very young boy, in the early 1960s (you do the math...). I've always thought of automatic washers and dryers, along with...
