I need to recap a few 60's radios

Work Safely Remember some of those 5 tube table radios from that era had chassis that were "hot" anytime the radio was plugged in. Be very careful when working on those. http://https//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_American_Five

    Dryers and Towels

We find that if we dry our towels using the Knits/Gentle setting they come out softer and fluffier than if we use Regular or Permanent Press. The time seems to be about the same too. This is on our Whirlpool Electronic Electric Dryer.

    Fun with hot water heater

Our hot water tank is aBradford-White 40 gal that's about 12 years old. I usually drain them periodically but the drain spigot on this model doesn't have a handle, you need to use a flat bladed screwdriver to open/close the spigot. One of my neighbors said he had a hot water tank that he was...

    Interesting Amana Set

Wasn't this machine from the time Raytheon owned Amana & Speed Queen? I've seen vintage Speed Queens with similar styling. I imagine lead got stuck in the internal hoses. Maybe the owners are dumping it as a precautionary measure?

    1961 "Time Capsule" House

To me the home looks very Palm Springs, especially the interior design. It looks like it landed in Minnesota by mistake. Beautiful home though.

New guy who picked up a Maytag A512

We had the next model up from the one you have here. We had it for about 6 years. It never broke down and worked each and every time. I just didn't like the slow agitation Maytag uses in their washers. I'm more of a Whirlpool direct drive kinda guy. You'll have good luck with it! Just make sure...

    Buying a home

At first a mortgage payment may seem to be more expensive than a rent payment, but as time wears on you'll soon notice that you couldn't rent a home for what you are paying in mortgage payments every month. Rent has a way of constantly rising whereas mortgage payments stay the same.

    Mrs Lloyd T Watters Meatloaf..

Yes, we bake our meatloaf covered with aluminum wrap for the first 45 min at 350F and then last 15-20 minutes uncovered to brown the top.

    Mrs Lloyd T Watters Meatloaf..

I agree. We've been doing bout the use of Oatmeal instead of bread crumbs. You can't tell the difference but the loaf will be healthier for you to eat. We've been making this way for years now. We add Oregno, Garlic, Basil and Marjoram to our meatloaf too, plus a few drops of Tabasco sauce...

    Pre-Radar Transcontinental Airway System

I've also seen airlines "deadheading" engines on 747's by hanging them off a wing too. But I imagine that Qantas has to fly their engines much further out than most airlines and a speed pack would offer much less drag than an extra engine hanging out there on the wing. And less drag equals less...

Flavorful Roast Beef: It's Made With WHAT?!

Tom, you are exactly correct about browning the meat of a pot roast before cooking in a pressure cooker. I heard on a cooking show that using this method ensures that some of the great flavoring is done during the browning of the meat. We love Pot Roast, only problem is that for the past year...

Flavorful Roast Beef: It's Made With WHAT?!

Muse Air, a former Airline in Texas used to serve Beef Fajitas and in the recipe they used Coca Cola, Onion Soup Mix and Lime Juice as the marinade. They were wonderful, I imagine you could also use that recipe on Roast Beef too.

    Pre-Radar Transcontinental Airway System

Luxury Ten Years Earlier Now here is a video you all will enjoy! U.S. mainland to Hawaii, 1950 on a Boeing Stratocruiser! You could even have your own compartment complete with sleeping berths. Of course the flight took 11 hours...

    Pre-Radar Transcontinental Airway System

Yes, it was all real. From about 1958-1978 or so. Back then airline airfares were tightly regulated by the CAB (Civil Aeronautics Board). Everyone charged the same thing between any given cities. The only way airlines could distinguish themselves was by the service they offered. So thinks like...

    Ice Cube Types

I found them on Ebay. I paid $2.50 for a pair of trays and $3.00 shipping. The auction was marked for 1 tray only, but when I opened the package 2 trays were in there. For some reason the price seems to have gone up a bit since I ordered mine in mid December...

    Pre-Radar Transcontinental Airway System

Basic flying skills must still be demonstrated in the simulator. Every pilot goes through a proficiency check every six months to make sure they still have their skills, and how to handle various emergency situations. If you can't pass one of these you get once chance in a retraining class. One...

    Pre-Radar Transcontinental Airway System

What a great thread! A lot of the left over arrows from the old early aviation navigation systems are way out in the middle of no mans land. I think that's why some of them are left. But there aren't many. There were many air mail pilots killed while operating their routes back then. It...

    Ice Cube Types

A few months ago we were discussing the various ice cube shapes that different brands of ice machines made. It seemed that the cylindrical and the half crescent shapes were the most common. And each also had it's own set of problems for the end user. It seemed some cubes like to stick to the...

    Chef's Going Out Of Business>>

Same thing on some of their Wusthopf Trident knives. Their "sale price" is the same as our local Sur La Table stores regular price. A few years ago a local woman ran an auction on Ebay for a box full of brand new baking and cooking items from Chef's. She was going to start a business and that...
