    a free Roundie

Cataracts Is the term used when the protective cover on the front of the CRT starts to delaminate as Norgeway described. It can be fixed, but is a time consuming and possibly dangerous job. Whoever does the repair needs to have lots of experience working with CRTs...

    Free and Clear Detergents

We use All Free & Clear because it's the only detergent I can use without activating my allergy to laundry detergents. We've used both the liquid and powdered versions. I found that the liquid version rinses out better than the powdered version does. You'd think it would be the other way around...

    Washing Comforters/Bedspreads: What's Your Process?

We go to our local Chinese operated Washateria. They have new Wascomat machines and we use the middle size machine on hot/warm wash/rinse settings with two extra rinses. Hot on these machines is about 130F. The comforters come out really nice. When drying them we use a medium heat and every 10...

    Favorite TV show logos

Yes, Bewitched did appear on the ABC network. Instead of playing the ABC logo as above, they had Elizabeth Montgomery telling to "Stay tuned for Bewitched next in color". ABC had several of these featuring one of the stars from the upcoming color show. My favorite was the CBS color...

    Favorite hotels

I prefer the Marriott hotels. The bedding is top notch and the pillows are fantastic. I liked the pillows so much I bought a pair from Marriott. Everything in their rooms has a tag that reads "This item is for sale, please contact the front desk". But they ship you a brand new item. But I...

RETRO FRIDAY- Impeller Wash in Action Commercial

That water spraying action in that old GE looks phenomenal compared to the water spray of today's dishwashers. I'm really surprised with the weak sprays of today's dishwashers that they can spray anything at all off dishes. But they do.

Retro Renovation talks to the set decorator of ABC's 'The Astronaut Wives Club'

Years ago they had a Manned Space Museum inside the Johnson Space Center here in Houston. It was a somber kind of place where the articles from the missions were placed behind glass with just a printed index card telling you what each item was. And lots of photos too. Now it's a separate...

Retro Renovation talks to the set decorator of ABC's 'The Astronaut Wives Club'

Nope, Barry everyone here knows. You know the old pilot joke, it there's a pilot in the room you don't have to pick him out, he'll tell you! I usually fit in some aviation fact in my postings every now and then. It's the thing I know best!

Retro Renovation talks to the set decorator of ABC's 'The Astronaut Wives Club'

FInal Footnote After researching this information about these astronaut homes and subdivision, it brought back a lot of memories of the time I had spent there in the 70's. That friend of mine bought a house in the same subdivision even though he never worked for NASA. But like me, he was a...

How To Get Rid Of A Monster TV

No.no, it's in a big entertainment type console. Think of a huge bookcase with cut outs for components such as televisions and stereo equipment. The photo I sent was of the same model television I have, but not the same exact one. The television sits in a recess built to hold a television...

    Losing a Publix

How is Food Lion doing? They were here in Houston for awhule, then after 20/20 did the expose on how Food Lion mishandled meats in their meat dept. they all closed up and left town. This must have been in the mid to late 90's. But Houston is a very competitive food market. Safeway, Albertsons...

Retro Renovation talks to the set decorator of ABC's 'The Astronaut Wives Club'

And finally a nice story about how the Timber Cove subdivision came to be and how it relates to NASA and it's Astronauts and employees. http://https//houstonhistorymagazine.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/a-home-for-heroes-timber-cove.pdf

Retro Renovation talks to the set decorator of ABC's 'The Astronaut Wives Club'

Another thing that gets me about Astronaut Wives is that why are all the astronauts in the show so small statured? You can see what I mean in the picture at the top of this thread. They are barely bigger than their wives. The real astronauts were normal sized men. And in browsing through some...

Dog Barking Sound In VMW Washers During Wash Cycle

Could be a pump noise. I know on the Airbus A320 series aircraft, passengers sitting in rows greater than 16 sometimes report that they can hear a dog barking in the hold below the cabin floor. What actually makes that noise is a PTU pump that pumps up the pressure for engine start and wing flap...

Retro Renovation talks to the set decorator of ABC's 'The Astronaut Wives Club'

To drift back to the original subject Most of the astronauts and NASA scientists and support workers lived in a subdivision just down NASA Road 1 called Timber Cove. Today it's part of the city of Taylor Lake Village. Now this is pretty low lying land between Clear Lake and Galveston Bay. I...
