Photo of Early A806 *NON-PP* Timer Dial?

Anyone who has anything damaged in a Maytag either didn’t load the machine properly or use the correct cycles, or simply were too cheap to buy a Maytag 806 with every cycle imaginable. I almost always use the gentle wash with a fast spin combination for lightly soiled items and smaller loads on...

    A DE606 from 1966!

Reply #26 No worries, I’ll just will have to ask around in the future. Might just be easier to convert to 120v if I end up moving to another location in the future with no 240v outlet. Btw, when you dismantle this DE606 for a tune-up, I highly suggest replacing/upgrading the thermostats while...

WORST pre-1980 agitator design ever made??

Reply #12 There’s zero reason to make such remarks for someone reviving an old thread. Sometimes, it’s nice to turn back the clock and go back down memory lane. Sometimes, it’s remarks such as that which makes me want to take a long, long break for the forum. Definitely has pushed away people...

    A DE606 from 1966!

I believe all Maytag HOH’s from the 1960’s to 1975 used a Bakelite blower wheel. I have a metal blower wheel I snagged from the appliance junkyard back in 2022. Should do a test to see if it dries faster since it probably moves more air since there’s more vanes on it.

    A DE606 from 1966!

Reply #14 The inside of my Maytag DG606 had some corrosion, but wasn’t all that bad. Think that particular Maytag 606 set was only in service for about 16 years judging by the shape everything was in. Timer was stiff on the washer since it appeared to be sitting for a good 30 years.

    A DE606 from 1966!

The Maytag DE306 I picked up back in August of 2018 didn’t have a felt seal on it at all, have since installed a felt seal on. That particular dryer is essentially a DE806, not a true DE896 since it’s basically a 407 dryer, but close to a DE806 nevertheless.

    A DE606 from 1966!

LowEfficiency, dumb question, but do you still have the shroud, burner cone, gas valve from that Maytag DG606 you parted out or not? Thinking about obtaining those parts to convert my Maytag DE806 into a gas version, if I end up moving to a location that doesn’t have electric available. There’s...

Photo of Early A806 *NON-PP* Timer Dial?

Reply #29 Hi Mark, I have a Maytag A806 which does the same thing. Believe that’s how they came from the factory, since it’s a shorter spin, is about equivalent to a slower spin speed.

Photo of Early A806 *NON-PP* Timer Dial?

As a Maytag fanatic, I wouldn’t want to use a Maytag 906 on a daily basis since it’s difficult to tell what’s going on, despite knowing the ins and outs of the cycles and functions. The only pre-programmed machine I used for a brief time was my ‘63 Whirlpool Mark XII, thankfully it had the...

    Samsung 240 volt Vented Combo!

Reply #19 The ship sailed when Whirlpool discontinued the direct drives, even before they discontinued the direct drives since they had that stupid low water rinse which did a number on the motor coupler and transmission for sure, possibly the motor. All Whirlpool employees, engineers...

    Samsung 240 volt Vented Combo!

“Sadly for everyone else as with their front loading washing machines Bendix had a lock on various patients. Anyone who else with ideas in that direction (such as a plain front loading washer) had to either work around Bendix’s patents or pay up”. That’s one of the many reasons why front...

    Early Frigidaire dryer

Reply #6 Geez, I’m just trying to engage and encourage a discussion among other people on the site. It seems as though I can’t say or comment on anything without anyone jumping to conclusions since people can’t seem to think let alone use logic these days. People seem to base everything...

    Cold Wash Warm Rinse Cycle

Reply #67 It’ll do a cold wash warm rinse. One day, I decided to press the warm rinse button for giggles when doing a cold water wash, sure enough, it began to fill with warm water. Quickly set it back to cold after that. Also decided to press the warm rinse button when it was doing a cold...

    Best washers and dryers

“There’s no way you’ll EVER see a commercial washer with plastic gears with the exception of Maytag” The Maytag orbital machines had all plastic gears inside the transmission, the transmission was identical to residential models, some with the Whirlpool direct drive coin op machines. You...

Jerome, why do you keep on dwelling on the same thing over and over? You can’t seem to put certain things to rest. You seem hell-bent on GE, but in my book, GE never seemed to ‘get it’ in the laundry appliance department. Their Filter Flo washers had a transmission that held two quarts of oil...

    Best washers and dryers

Jerome, if you really want to know what has to do with the reliability of a washer, it’s the tub seals and hoses, timer, outer tub. I’ve been through my Whirlpool countless times and have seen it all, John has as well. Even though me a John disagree heavily on a majority of things, I’ll side...
