    POD 05/02/2018 - RCA Whirlpool EA-16 top-loader

very basic BOL model Water temp selected at the tap, no mixing valve; and only one water level. Saw a similar bare-bones machine once out in a wash shed of a cabin my family rented one summer. The owner had posted instructions and painted the water spigots (one blue for cold and one red for...

    Whirlpool FL model #WFW85HEFC w/steam

Selecting "steam" option on my LG heats the water to create the steam. I use it occasionally on loads of whites or extra gross work out clothes. It does add some time to the cycle to heat the water, but the results are worth it. I recommend getting a machine that has an on-board heater.

Frigidaire WIB 1-18 Water Not Circulating Thru Lint Filter

If your machine is draining the tub during the cycles and otherwise operating normally, I would venture to guess it is just a clog (lint build up?) in the recirculation hose between the pump and the filter.

    New FL Washer Suggestions.

That particular Kenmore front-load washer is made by Frigidaire/Electrolux. They are a decent machine for the money. If it is not abused it should perform well. I had a 2006 Frigidaire Gallery model that I was very pleased with. Passed it along to my son and daughter in law and it is still going...

    Thriftivator? Calgloss?

Kevin -- I believe the term "gooseneck" was used on the Hotpoint straight-vane agitator because it had a long, slim centerpost with no vanes on it.

    Poor Cleaning Front Loader

Modern FL clean better because: 1. Stronger detergent solution in less water today 2. Better low-suds detergents today than in the past (Tide was not making low suds products back then) 3. Better wash action -- larger drums drop solution-saturated clothes from top to bottom of basket; deeper...

Problems an FL presents to a short arthritic elder

Don't worry about the access door to the pump on the LG As others have said, it is NOT a lint filter -- it is there to more easily clear pump jams. Any pump can get clogged, FL or TL; the LG access door makes it easier for the do-it-yourselfer to clear a jam. On other machines, TL or FL, you...

    New Laundry Tubs?

Return of the suds saver? I personally don't think it will ever happen. For one, today's larger capacity top load machines use too much water in the wash cycle to store -- you'd need a bathtub to store the water, a laundry sink would not be adequate. (Most machines during the suds saver heyday...

    Double-wall Wringer Washers

typically, only the "top of the line" wringer washer models would have a double tub.

    POD 11-9-2017

What is interesting about this picture of the day is that the bottom-of-the-line model was a different mechanism than the rest. If you read the specifications, Model "WH" had a wider, slower agitation stroke and a higher spin speed (620 rpm vs. 515) The control panel was a different design...

    Westinghouse slant-front machines

I believe when Westinghouse changed from a slant-tub format in the late 50's it was a redesign that improved capacity and cleaning performance, and of course, tangled less. The slant tub design had the laundry sliding backwards in the tub as well as going round and dropping down onto the...

    A Blast from the Past

Cool! What a cute electric broom! Love the colors! Bet you'll enjoy it, especially since your grandmother had one.

    2018 Speed Queen topload models

Sorry, Norgeway --- wrong Not sure how you draw your conclusion about modern FL rinsing, but I doubt you have tried your test with EVERY FL washer on the market today. I have an LG FL that is an excellent rinser. Best performing machine of any FL or TL I have owned. Regular cycle has two spin...

    POD 10/12/2017

Very interesting Apex-built machine. Notice they mention a four vane agitator, but the picture looks like it is a three vane? Several early top loaders had a hot rinse -- either spray or deep -- probably to help rinse soap curd away. (Dexter, Hotpoint, Coronado and other early Beam machines for...

    POD 9/18/2017

I had two relatives in Buffalo NY who had Blackstone washing machines back in the day when I was a kid. One was a wringer washer with the "Hydractor" agitator and the other was an early automatic with the red dials on the front of the cabinet and a stainless steel tub. I also saw a laundromat...

Pants or No Pants? The Cartoony Mascot Dilemma

my 2-cents Both look good, but since you're trying to customize Mr. Silver Geek Wolf to represent you, I'd say to wear cargo pants if that is what you are known for.

    Anyone see the Solar Eclipse?

it was a cloudy morning in So Cal and we only had about 70% coverage, but it was very cool the way the shadows were falling low in our yard - the light was noticeably different. I stepped outside and aimed my phone at the sun without actually looking at it and lucked out, capturing this photo.

    POD 8/20/17: Salvo Detergent Tablets

ah, Salvo! When I was a kid my Mom used Dash until we got a free sample of Salvo in the mail and she was immediately hooked. She never bought another brand of detergent until they stopped making Salvo. She said she loved the nice clean scent, not over-powering or too sweet. My grandmother...
