    Economical Eating—Nothing beats a Sandwich!

I bought a 2.5 lb.chicken yesterday for only $3, stuffed and roasted it. So far got 2 meals, picked the chicken carcass and have enough to put in the food processor with celery, onions and pickles with lots of spices to make my favorite chicken salad. I'll get at least 2 more meals for only $3...

Maytag Electronic Stacked W&D Combo Unit

My sister had that same model tucked in an alcove in the bathroom. It was delivered and installed and immediately threw an error code. Replaced the boards and she used it for years after with no problems. She never said either washer or dryer had a capacity problem and that it worked fine for her.

    Dishwasher Loading

Back many years ago, when I was 16, I worked in a restaurant kitchen and was shown to have all dishes facing toward the middle, where the spray arm is. Never to face dishes towards the sides. I still load mine that way and they are always clean and as much as another dishwasher expert on here...

Owning a Home is SO NOT WORTH IT!

Eddie, this was just my families summer camp. I have been here since I was 5 and always hated to leave. I sunk a ton of money to make it the year round home I wanted. I still swear the dead relatives souls are still here. Property values on this lake have skyrocket up. People with the big bucks...

Really old gas dryers -- where were the pilot lights?

Those constant burning pilots As a kid, we had an old Bendix. The bottom access panel dropped down so you could light the pilot. My father was adamant about saving energy and every washday it had to be manually lit. It is said pilots use 1/3 of your gas usage. That Bendix BROILED the clothes

    Galaxie W&D BOL

$199 each was the advertised sale price but salespeople were ordered to upsell to a more pricier model. Most Sears stores only had a few in stock and there were no rainchecks on those sale items.

    Thermostatic Auto-Dry

When I got my Maytag 511 washer and 410 dryer, I read the owners manual and it said on the dryer to set the your first load to less dry and if it is dry enough, use that setting from now on. I have set it that way since I bought it 1984 but I do notice the actual time a light load is sooner and...

    Rolling Undercounter Dishwasher?

Next door to me is a seasonal camp and they have a regular portable that slides under their kitchen countertop. They just removed the faux butcher block top and it has the room to slide in and look built in and easily rolls up to the sink.

To pre-rinse dishes or not to pre-rinse...

Pre-rinsing is mandatory in my house as it will usually sit for a week. It is only run when packed full and only on Light Wash and all the dishes are clean after a week of sitting in there and almost 30 years later my racks are still fine.

To pre-rinse dishes or not to pre-rinse...

But the residue from garbage sitting 7-10 days before running stinks every time you open the door to add something, so I rinse off and I am not changing. I only run mine when I cant cram another thing in it and then only on Light Wash.

Dishwasher Pet Peeves... What are yours?

I have been doing dishes in a dishwasher twice as long as you have been alive and you are certainly not the expert on everything you believe you are. I will do it my way and I have never ruined a dishwasher by not following YOUR strict rules.

Dishwasher Pet Peeves... What are yours?

Jerome, Its none of your business how people use their dishwasher and I resent you calling me stupid because I do run them under the faucet before loading and your mith about damaging racks is bonkers. My nearly 30 year old Whirlpool's racks are still perfect. So quit calling people stupid...
