    A tale of two P&G detergents…

@ Reply 11 Rich, that isn't too awful for a one-time splurge - especially when you consider that Miele charges close to $40 for their powder.

    A tale of two P&G detergents…

Eugene - you’ll have to let me know what you think of the Tide powder. I’m most interested in knowing about the suds, as well as if it smells identical to the Ariel (I tried the Ariel Matic powder once; it has a very crisp, old-school detergent scent).

    LG 3400CW washer question

@ Reply 13 Interesting that you'd mention this. I did do one...by accident. Our maintenance department flooded my kitchen when installing the washer. We used 6 bath towels (and a mop...and two rolls of paper towels) to clean the mess up. We ended up doing a full wash - start to finish - on the...

    LG 3400CW washer question

@ Reply 7 My apologies, John - for some reason, I thought I had posted a photo of what they gave us. Anyway, allow me to rectify that situation.

    A tale of two P&G detergents…

@ Replies 5, 6, and 7... In order... Reply 5: You are absolutely correct. We did not have "hard evidence", so to speak. That is what makes trying new things fun and/or exciting. You never know what you're going to get. In our past experience, imported detergents - whether they are from...

    A tale of two P&G detergents…

@ Reply 4 Well..it's kind of like this. 1: Mrs. V and I did not actively seek these detergents out, per se. It popped up on a related search of other detergents. Naturally, we had to try it. 2: While there may be a plethora of "HE" detergents here in the states, Mrs. V and I miss the days...

    A tale of two P&G detergents…

@tomturbomatic We found the Ariel on Amazon for just under 16 bucks. The Tide was found through a seller on Bonanza. Paid just under $40 with shipping. It was one of two bottles that the seller had. Obviously, if it cleans as good as the Tide, we will stick with the Ariel.

Tide Ultra Oxi Powder for the win

@ Reply 12 Not sure where you see that Purex Oxy Plus has three enzymes. I'm on their website now, and looking at the "Smart Label", it only shows one.

    A tale of two P&G detergents…

So, now that Mrs. Volvoman and I have this “fancy” HE-front load washer, we decided to find fancy HE detergent to use in it. In our online search, we came across a pair of imported P&G offerings: Tide Matic for front loaders, and Ariel Matic for front loaders. Purchased both to try. According...

    LG 3400CW washer question

Greetings! On Friday, my wife and I were issued a new LG 3400CW washing machine by our leasing company, along with the matching dryer. So far, we love them - especially in comparison to the horrid little GE Spacemakers that we had prior. We spent the entire weekend throwing whatever we could...

Old school washers - what are our options here?

@ Reply 13 Yes, it is! It's made by Henkel. Smells great.

Old school washers - what are our options here?

The saga comes to a close… …This is what we were given. So far, we like them - as well as the fact that they are, for the space, massive. Hopefully, this is a decent set.

Old school washers - what are our options here?

Another update New washer and dryer are being installed on Friday. According to maintenance supervisor, we're getting Samsungs. No idea what model, size, etc. Neither myself nor Mrs. V will be home when this happens, so photos will come later that evening. And not a moment too soon, btw, as...

Why Did Older Dishwasher Have Such Enormous Motors?

@ Reply 4 This. My wife and I have a portable Whirlpool that hooks up to the sink. I'd take a venture that it's close to 30 years old, if not more. It's loud. It uses a ton of water. And I guarantee you that it cleans better than anything currently on the market. It's not a Power Clean (it's...

Old school washers - what are our options here?

An update So, I decided to take video of the washer's faults in action. I was able to capture the fabric softener dispenser, but not the groaning/rubbing. I sent it off to the leasing office, and asked them about the process of buying my own, as I didn't want what I currently have. She...

Old school washers - what are our options here?

@ Reply 4 John - That's a good idea. One other question - as I'd keep the dryer, can I use the pedestal rack with this? Or can the dryer be stacked on top of the washer without any issue?

Old school washers - what are our options here?

@ reply 1 John - Is this the one you are talking about? https://www.geappliances.com/appliance/GE-ENERGY-STAR-24-2-4-Cu-Ft-Front-Load-Washer-with-Steam-GFW148SSMWW It looks nice - showed it to Mrs. V. She's not sure if we should plunk down that kind of money, especially if we end up selling...

Old school washers - what are our options here?

Happy 2024, AW friends. I've got an unusual question for you. In 2021, our stackable Kenmore front-loader finally bit the bullet. It was a shame, as it was one of the last "decent" machines out there (see photos of identical machine set for reference). As we needed a new washer, we contacted...

    German and European detergents

I second Yuccadew's comment... I find that Polish and German detergents have a clean, "detergent" smell to them, much like the ones of our youth. The American offerings are heavy-handed in their scents, to the point where it is nauseating. As an example, the only version of Tide that I can...

    Henkel “E”?

@ Yuccadew I haven't seen "E" liquid available, either. What I've been on a quest to find locally, is Persil Lavender liquid. The powder is available quite easily in my area; not so much the liquid. I could order it, but I don't want to.
